Eau Claire North Huskies head coach Ryan Parker picked up his 200th career win with a 3-1 victory over Reedsburg-Wisconsin Dells on Saturday at the Somerset Thanksgiving Tournament.
North scored first off a faceoff win by Kolin Leazott back to Westly Thillman in the RWD zone. Thillman’s shot beat RWD goalie Alex Griebe for a 1-0 lead. The puck had been in the RWD zone just about the whole time, and the faceoff was the result of an icing.
After seven minutes of play, the huskies had registered eight shots on goal, while RWD had barely dented the ECN zone. A couple of power plays for RWD ended up making the period shot totals closer at 9-7.
The second period saw more domination by the Huskies, who out-shot RWD 17-5 in the frame, but they did not add to their one goal lead.
North got a power play goal early in the third period when Tommy Perkins threw the puck from the left corner toward the goal. The puck somehow found its way between Griebe’s leg pads and into the net.
The Huskies added a shorthanded goal later in the period when the center, Logan Hesselman pushed the faceoff behind the RWD center, then picked it up and fired past Griebe.
RWD finally broke through with a goal with only 23 seconds left in regulation. An odd-man rush resulted in the puck getting to Brady Baldwin on the back door with a wide open net. Andrey Tougas and Ryan Manley were the other odd men on the rush.
Landon Ivey ended the game with 18 saves, while Griebe stopped 35 shots.
