The Fond du Lac and St. Mary's Springs boys hockey teams put 87 shots on goal. If the game's final shot had been on goal Fondy would have won. Instead, Ty Rebedew's shot was too high with seconds remaining and the two Fond du Lac schools tied 4-4.

Fondy put at least 10 shots on goal in each period and Springs goalie Andrew Riehl was forced into 48 saves. Fondy goalie Charlie Blagoue wasn't far behind with 31 stops.

"You can't say enough good things about Andrew Riehl," Springs coach Ty Steffes said. "He played great and basically kept us in it the whole way through, but unfortunately we couldn't pull out the win, only a tie."

The two teams exchanged goals throughout the game.

Tyler Berndt opened the scoring for the Ledgers in the first period, but Fondy freshman Jack Nejedlo knotted the score at 1-1. Nejedlo tied the game again when he canceled out a Conner Blanck goal.

Berndt made it 3-2 at the end of the second intermission with a short-handed goal. Fondy was on the attack before a deflection sent the puck to midice, where Berndt was able to gain control.

Rebedew and Keegan Acheson scored in the third period for the Cardinals, while Matt Austin had the Ledgers' (6-1-1, 1-1-1) goal. Acheson's rebound goal off of a Rebedew shot with 1:34 left in the third period sent the game to overtime.

Late in overtime, the Cardinals (2-4-1, 2-0-1) had a chance at the winner during a power play, but Rebedew's backdoor shot from point-blank range flew over the crossbar with under 10 seconds left in the game. He wasn't able to time his shot as the puck fell to him, according to Fondy coach Ryan Sarazin.
