Metro Lynx Headed Back To State

The Madison Metro Lynx were the Badger conference. champion and number 1 seed in the girls section 4 playoff . The Lynx met up with a conference foe in the Viroqua Blackhawks for a trip to the State tournament on the line. 

Having beaten the Blackhawks twice during the season the Lynx made  it three times with a 5-1 win Saturday. The win sets them up with a semifinal game against Bay Area Thursday at 4 pm at Cap Ice in Middleton.

The Lynx was up 3-0 after one period on the strength of two power play goals. Emma Stebbeds (Verona) scored for the Lynx on one of them with over six minutes gone. Rachel Jasinski (Middleton) scored the next wo goals for the Lynx. The first one was deflected off her stick at full strength, and the next was on the power play to make it 3-0 Lynx after one period.

The Lynx added one more in the second on the second power play goal of the game by Emma Stebbeds. Thru two periods the Lynx had a decided 31-9 shots advantage and a 4-0 lead. 

Viroqua got on the board and got some momentum early in the third period. Cadence Dehlin finally broke thru with over 12 minutes left for a 4-1 deficit. The Blackhawks totaled 17 shots in that period, but still were held at bay. Grace Bonnell (Mad. Memorial) topped off the Lynx' scoring with just under 2 minutes left on the power play for the 5-1 final.

In the game Viroqua goalie Lilliah Tambourine stopped 45 shots.

Lynx goalie Addie Armstrong (Mad. Memorial) had 25 stops

Viroqua finishes the season with a record of 14-10, including a second place finish in the Badger conference.
