It wasn't just the first win over Arrowhead for all the players wearing the Kettle Moraine/Mukwonago/Oconomowoc jersey Tuesday night. It was convincing.

The Lasers went into the Mullett Center and handled the Warhawks, 6-1, moving the program's record to 9-1 overall.

"It's the first time Kettle Moraine has beaten Arrowhead in several years," KM coach John Brymer said. "Our kids were maybe a little nervous coming into the conference game. We didn't have the start we were hoping for. We scored first and then got better as the game went on."

Austin Freeman scored on a power-play goal with an assist from Greg Simandl, and Michael DelVecchio's goal off Sam Hart's assist gave the Lasers the 2-1 lead after the first period. Connor Moran added two goals in the action that followed, with Simandl and Jeff Johnson adding their own tallies. Assists came from Jimmy Rice, Jake Erdman, Justin Yute, DelVecchio and Freeman.

"Arrowhead is still a very tough team to play," Brymer said. "The first couple lines gave us plenty of pressure all game long. They still kept coming, so I give them a lot of credit. We knew we couldn't let up on them because of the way they play. They forced us to keep the gas pedal down."

Mike Adams scored in the first period on an assist by Jared Johnson for AHS. Quinn Disrud made 27 saves for the Lasers, including an unblemished sequence in the second period when the co-op committed essentially back-to-back-to-back penalties. Tim Routes made 24 saves for the Warhawks.

Team wins twice over weekend

Moving to 8-1 on the year, the Kettle Moraine/Mukwonago/Oconomowoc boys hockey team showed no signs of slowing down last weekend, cutting through the Germantown co-op on Friday, 5-2, and taking down Stoughton on Saturday, 4-0.

The latter victory marked the first varsity shutout for Disrud. The feat included a penalty kill on a 5-minute major.

Erdman, who incurred that penalty, popped out of the box and scored the fourth goal of the game shortly thereafter. Defensemen Matt Sherry and Hart posted scores, and Luke Steidl added another. A host of players picked up assists: Simandl, Zach Thoreson, Moran, Andy Behling, Yute and DelVecchio.

Disrud made 35 saves. Yute scored twice against the Ice Bears on Friday, and Freeman had two assists.
