Ms. All-Independent

Success represents so much more than just goals, collegiate playing time and great statistics. The Ms. All-Independent Award aims to call attention to an individual that represents the total package: a great teammate, community service, academic success and contributes positively to the team in ways that are not always measurable. There are no age, team, statistic, or GPA requirements.

The Ms. All-Independent Award is a measurement of a person’s worth of someone who embodies all that is right with sports and a person who will have a positive influence on future generations.

Ms. All-Independent 2023

Chloe Lemke, Senior, Central Wisconsin Storm

Chloe Lemke“I proudly nominate Chloe Lemke for the Wisconsin Ms. Hockey Award. Chloe is a 4-year letter winner for the Central Wisconsin Storm. She has been a member of the all-independent team the last two years. She was an all-state goaltender last season as well as the Jesse Vetter award winner as Wisconsin High School Hockey’s best female goaltender. Her outstanding play led her team to a 2022 state championship last season and a state appearance the year before.

For her career, Chloe has amassed a 37-13 record. She has a career 1.49 goals against average and a 92.3% save percentage. She is approaching 1000 career saves and has logged well over 2500 minutes in goal for the Storm.

Chloe has been a goaltender for the Wisconsin Selects the past three seasons and has led the team to Nationals appearances in each season as well as a runner-up finish during the 2022 season. Her team is currently ranked second in the nation for the 2022-2023 season.

While Chloe’s accomplishments on the ice are impressive, she does equally impressive work off the ice. In the classroom, Chloe maintains a 4.0 GPA while maintaining a very challenging workload. She has participated in Math League and Math Club as well as participating in the National Honor Society at Mosinee High School. She has volunteered to help coach our U12
Storm girls’ team the last two seasons and has helped with the Mosinee Learn to Skate program as well.

The best attribute Chloe possesses is her team-first approach. As a sophomore, Chloe played nearly every minute of every game for us. Her play was outstanding on a team that struggled to find their footing sometimes. In the next season, a talented freshman goaltender joined the program, and a goalie controversy could have brewed. Chloe never faltered. When I asked her what she thought about our new goaltender getting varsity minutes, she replied by saying, “ I don’t want her to have my freshman year experience. I want her to play.” I have no doubt in my mind that Chloe’s selfless attitude is the reason we were able to win a state title last season and our putting together another nice run this year. Her example is one that every athlete should follow. Put the team first and the good individual things will find their way to you. I hope that’s the case for this wonderful young lady.”

Ms. All-Independent 2023 Runner Up:

Riley Sprenger, Senior, Hayward

Riley Sprenger“It would be my honor to nominate Riley Sprenger for the 2023 Ms. All-Independent. I have had the opportunity to coach Riley for the past 4 years, where I have watched her grow as a player and person.

Riley has challenged herself every single day while at Hayward High School. She chose rigorous classes like AP History, AP Statistics, and AP Chemistry, as well as many honors classes throughout her time at Hayward High School. Riley has managed this rigorous coursework and has maintained a 3.7 GPA; her drive to succeed has pushed her to do her best in all her academics, which has her ranked in the top 10% of her class.

Outside of the classroom, Riley continues to show her leadership and dedication. Riley participated in many clubs throughout her high school career. She is the secretary for the National Honor Society (NHS), and she has been a part of the Spanish club and Character Ed. all 4 years. Riley was also a 3-sport athlete, being a captain of hockey, volleyball, and softball. Riley was a varsity player in Volleyball her junior and senior years and received the student-athlete award, which goes to someone who not only is a vital player to the team but also manages a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout the season. In softball, Riley has been a varsity player since her sophomore year. She has multiple awards including being named to the All-Conference 1st team in 2021 and 2022 and has been named team MVP sophomore and junior seasons.

Along with academics and other extracurriculars, Riley has shined and seen great success with the Hayward Co-op Hurricanes, which makes her a great candidate for the Miss Hockey award. In her career, Riley has competed in 91 games, with 1.46 points per game all while competing against some of the best teams in the state. As a freshman, Riley compiled 14 points, as a sophomore she had 21 points, and as a junior, she collected 32 points. This year, as a senior, Riley has 66 points, which puts her at the highest number of points for our team, and she is ranked top 3 in the state. Riley is also 1 of only 8 players who have had over 100 points in her career at Hayward. Although you will see Riley on the score sheet quite often, this is only part of who she is as a hockey player. Riley was voted captain in both her Junior and Senior years, which is a feat that very few have done in the Hayward program. She has also received honors at the conference and state level. As a Junior, Riley was named to the All-State honorable mention team. Riley has also received accolades through our team, being named the rookie of the year as a freshman, as well as leading scorer her sophomore and junior season and team MVP her junior year.

In addition to these accomplishments, Riley has dedicated her time to the youth program. She has spent multiple hours with the Learn to Skate program being a mentor to young players. She has also helped other students in the community by having a reading buddy at the elementary level, spending volunteer hours bagging groceries at the local store, as well as helping during the Birkie expo, which is an international event held in Hayward.

It is hard to put into words what Riley has meant to our hockey program and our community. She is very well deserving of the Ms. All-Independent award. I have no doubt that Riley will continue to succeed in her future. She will be attending St. Mary’s University, where she will major in a nursing degree as well as compete at the division 3 level for softball.”
