The Warbirds Co-Op, fresh off their third place finish in the Eastern Shores Conference Tournament, traveled to Schofield on Tuesday evening to take on the top ranked Central Wisconsin Storm.

Things started off well for the Warbirds when just 33 seconds into the game Ella Spies carried the puck into the Storm zone and threw the puck at the net. The shot looked like a curve ball that a pitcher spikes in front of home plate to get a batter to swing. It looped toward Claire Calmes in net and hit the ice about 5 feet in front of her, and then bounced up and over her shoulder for a goal.

That would be the only shot Calmes would see on the night, as the Storm sent Chloe Lemke out to handle the goaltending duties from there.

It only took the Storm 12 seconds to answer back. Julia DeByle picked up the puck behind the Warbirds net and passed to Tristan Wicklund in the corner, who immediately passed it out to Hannah Baumann all alone in front for the easy one-timer goal.

Two goals in 45 seconds by two of the best teams in the state looked like we were on our way to a wild game, but they both settled down from there on out and only one more goal was scored.

It was tied at 1-1 for the remainder of the first period, and the majority of the second until DeByle took a long lead pass at center ice and tapped it over to Baumann who came on a breakaway. She deked goalie Hailee Scheier but missed the net on the play.

She didn't give up however and followed the puck behind the net and reacquired it.  There she made a pass to Wicklund and with a little give-and-go, Wicklund found Baumann alone in front of the net for her second one-timer goal and the 2-1 Storm lead.

That would be it for the scoring in the game as both goalies did a good job.

Scheier stopped 26 of 28 in the loss for the Warbirds while Lemke stopped all  27 shots she faced after taking over for Calmes.
