Mursau Leads Fox Cities to Victory

Close Fought Game Goes to the Stars from the East

The WiPH Girl's Game of the Week was scheduled to start at 2:00 PM, but the first period concluded before the puck was supposed to drop. Due to the JV game only being able to play two periods, the varsity game started earlier than scheduled.

The game found the Fox Cities Stars opening the scoring at 5:32 on a goal by Megan Tesky assisted by Teagan Tomoda. The two teams continued to trade shots on each other's goaltenders, but Fox Cities was keeping the majority of the pressure on ECA's Amy Thul. Renee Stoeger assisted on Evie Mursau's goal at 15:09 to bump Fox Cities lead to two goals. Teagan Tomoda scored an unassisted goal with 3.8 seconds remaining in the first period giving Fox Cities a 3-0 lead.

Fox Cities picked up a penalty at 1:47 of the second period for interference in front of their goaltender. Eau Claire Area was unable to score during the power play opportunity. However, at 6:20 of the second the Gruhlke sisters combined to cut into Fox Cities' lead. Kennedy Gruhlke scored the goal with Addison Gruhlke being credited with the assist. Fox Cities picked up their second penalty with 1:46 remaining in the period. The next goal was scored with 6 seconds on the clock, but it was a shorthanded goal by Evie Mursau to give Fox Cities a 4-1 lead at the end of two.

The third period was scoreless and the final score was 4-1 for Fox Cities.
