It was Youth Appreciation Night on Friday at Greenheck Fieldhouse in Schofield, one of the many homes of the Central Wisconsin Storm.  The girls played host to the Western Wisconsin Stars and came away with a 4-0 win.

Between the first and second periods, 8U skaters from Everest Youth Hockey, Marathon County Youth Hockey, and the Mosinee Hockey Club took the ice to play a game in the center ice zone, lead and cheered on by the Storm high school players.

In addition players from the Storm 12U A and B teams were introduced after the 8U game was played. The youth Storm program did not field 10U or 14U teams this year.

This was against the backdrop that on Sunday, Marathon County Youth Hockey will be holding a meeting regarding their youth program's future relationship with the Storm If there is news to cover from that meeting, we will have it here on Wisconsin Prep Hockey.

The Storm were a little sloppy (especially with outlet passes) on Friday night, but they still made the better of their opportunities when out shooting the Stars 21-10 in the game.

Tristan Wicklund opened the scoring with 2:15 remaining in the first period, with assists from Madeline Kelter and Julia DeByle to go into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead. The Storm outshot the Stars 9-1 in the period. The Stars had chances but missed the net too many times, and the Storm defense did a good job breaking up a few odd-man-rushes.

The Storm extended the lead to 3-0 with time winding down in the second period on nifty wristers by Hannah Baumann at 16:04 and Taylor Freidel at 16:37. Baumann went to the high blocker side corner, and Freidel sniped the glove side.

The Storm added their final goal at 7:26 of the third period on a power play one timer from Gabi Heuser.

Claire Calmes had 10 saves in the shut out win for the Storm. Emaliya Schultz stopped 17 of 21 for the Stars
