Sauk Prairie used a hard working offense and a 25 save game from Stephen Schultz to shut out Monona Grove 6-0 at Hartmeyer Ice Thursday night.
Sauk Prairie scored just over 5 minutes in on a rebound goal by Gavin Meeker. MG goalie Matt Zapp (25 saves) searched all over the crease for the loose puck and before he could locate it Meeker put it in the net for the 1-0 lead after 1 period. The lead grew to 2-0 when Sauk Prairie scored the first of their two shorthanded goals in the game when Travis Jacobson scored his first of two goals. Luke McElhenie scored with under a minute left in the period for a 3-0 lead thru two periods.
Sauk would wrap things up in the third period with a tally early in the third from Travis Jacobson. The fifth goal scored was thru traffic and 5 hole on Matt Zapp, who had a disbelief expression when it got all the way thru.The final goal was scored with less than 1 second left on the clock when Jacob Free finished the game with a tally of his own.
Sauk Prairie now is 7-2-1 and off until after Christmas. Monona Grove falls to 1-5 and travels to play Cedarburg on Saturday
