Offensive Pressure Leads to Victory

The Cap City Cougars hosted the Icebergs at The Ice Pond at Waunakee, but were not gracious hostesses.  The ice seemed to be slanted to the Cougars' offensive zone all night long.

The Icebergs found themselves in trouble as they were called for a tripping penalty at 7:49 of the period. The Icebergs killed off the penalty to keep the game scoreless. Cap City took the lead in the first period at 13:51, when Marli Davenport assisted on Abby Hollfelder's goal. Coincidental minors were called at 15:23, but the score remained 1-0 at the end of the first period.

The Icebergs picked up a hooking penalty at 4:06 of the second and Cap City capitalized. Marli Davenport scored the power play goal with an assist from Olivia Kaminsky at 5:55 of the second. The Cougars picked up a penalty for head contact at 7:02, but were able to kill it off. Another set of coincidental minors were assessed at 9:22 and had no effect on the game. Cap City's Gerogia Rae Samuelson scored at 12:38 with Olivia Dull assisting on the goal. The period concluded with Cap City leading 3-0.

The third period found the Icebergs going on the penalty kill just under 5 minutes into the period. The power play advantage was short lived as the Cougars picked up their own penalty 49 seconds later. Thirty seconds into the Icebergs power play opportunity, Teegan Davis scored a shorthanded goal for Cap City to conclude the scoring for the night. Cap City recorded a 4-0 victory.

Aven Gruner posted 47 saves for the Icebergs, while Izzy Hahn had 10 saves for the Cougars.
