Wisconsin Selects have an impressive fall season.

The Wisconsin Selects U19 girls’ team that placed second in the USA Hockey nationals last spring completed their fall portion of the season. The girls return this week to their local high school squads.

The team played teams from Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, South Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Idaho and Ontario and compiled a 22-1-1 record. The team was led by their stellar senior goalies- Chloe Lemke (CW Storm) and Ella Sciborski (Fox Cities Stars) who yielded only 21 goals in 24 games. Both goalies have won WIAA state championships!

The defense that stood strong in front of those goalies are- seniors Ella Spies (Fond du Lac WarBirds) and Jaden Hammes (Coulee Region Cyclones), juniors Abigail Dhein (CW Storm) and Brooke Brennan (Hayward) and sophmores Ashley Slupe (Chippewa Falls/Menomonie) and Ava Rode (CW Storm.)  Spies tallied 10 goals & 9 assists from her defensive position.

The offense is led by seniors Eileen Carey (University School), Emma-Lyn Stephenson (Chippewa Falls/Menomonie), Kennedy Gruhlke (ECA Stars), Anna Syzmanski (Coulee Region Cyclones) and Anna Faulkner (Badger City winter team.) Juniors are Zowie Hunter (Black River Falls), Mallory Schmidt (Northland Pines) and Addy Milota (Badger City winter team.) Sophmores are Addison Gruhlke (ECA Stars), Addisyn Buesgen (Chippewa Falls/Menomonie), and Gabi Heuser (CW Storm.) The lone freshman is Madeline Kelter (CW Storm.) Milota had 15 goals & 10 assists while six other forwards had at least eight or more goals.

The power play clicked at 33% and the penalty kill kept the opponents off the scoreboard 93%. of the time.

The team had 11 new players in the line-up! The team is ably coached by second-year head coach Emily Bauer, a professional hockey training instructor with the Valley Sport Academy in Lake Hallie, Wi. She is assisted by Steve Kirley, assistant coach for the two-time defending WIAA state champion Hudson Raiders boys’ high school team and Dr. Greg Slupe, former goalie coach for the UW-Stout men’s hockey team.

Next up will be a trip to the Central District playoff in Chicago in March with an eye on advancing to the USA Hockey Nationals in Anaheim, CA in April.
