The #2 Central Wisconsin Storm and the #3 Madison Metro Lynx met earlier this season on Dec. 29th. In that game the Lynx outshot the storm 38-30 but the Storm came away with a 2-1 win.

Both teams were more stingy with the shots in the WIAA State Tournament semifinals but the Storm skated to another win, this time 4-1.

In an unexpected twist All State First Team goalie Abby Nutini, and All State Honorable Mention goalie Chloe Lemke didn't start the game for their respective teams. Instead Addie Armstrong and Claire Calmes got the calls for the Lynx and the Storm, and both played well.

After a few fairly uneventful minutes of play for the first half of the first period, Kaya Byce got the Lynx on the board with an absolute snap from between the faceoff dot and half wall. It was a beautiful shot into the glove side corner of Calmes and the Lynx carried that 1-0 lead into the end of the first period.

The Storm came up big in the second period however.

At 3:57 of the second Samantha Federici fired a shot from the half wall at Armstrong and Dru Sabatke deflected it up and over to tie the game at 1 a piece.

Three minutes later Logan Crawford powered forward and drove the net hard, pushing the puck through for a goal and a 2-1 Storm lead.

Gabriel duVair extended the lead to two goals six minutes later. The Storm had a flurry in front and the puck kicked to duVair on the back door for the goal.

That would be it for the scoring until, with 33 seconds left, Hannah Baumann scored an empty netter to make it a 4-1 Storm win.

Armstrong stopped 21 of 24 for the Lynx in the loss, just her second of the season. Calmes stopped 18 of 19 in the win for the Storm who will advance to face the Onalaska Hilltoppers in the championship game on Saturday.
