The first period looked like an upset in the making as the Wausau West warriors hosted the #2 Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes on Saturday in the championship game of the Warrior Showcase, but the Old Abes clamped down in the second period and picked up three goals on their way to a 4-0 win.

The Warriors thoroughly controlled the first eight minutes of play, but after an Eau Claire Memorial power play at the 8:21 mark, things evened out and the teams played straight up for the remainder of the period.

Wausau had a couple defensive misfires in the first but goalie Adap Prokop was up to the task in those occasions and the game went into the first break tied at 0.

Memorial came out hot in the second period and forced the action into the West zone. Dylan Bryne broke the deadlock on a shot through traffic from the point. Somehow it managed to get through without hitting anything, and past Prokop to give Memorial the lead.

They would add to the lead later in the period with back-to-back power play goals. Tyler Starich had the first. Nick Madsen fired a shot from the point and Starich tipped it up into the top of the net to make it a two-goal lead.

They added their second power play goal four minutes later. Again Nick Madsen had the first assist on the goal, but this time Luke Lindsay buried it to make it 3-0.

Lindsay added his second goal of the game, an empty netter, in the final minute to make the final 4-0.

Despite allowing 30 shots, Memorial did a fantastic job of keeping West away from the middle of the ice, and forcing low percentage shots from outside.

Jack Savaloja had 30 saves in the shutout win for Eau Claire Memorial. Adap Prokop had 35 in the loss of the Warriors.
