Wisconsin Prep Hockey's game of the week featured Madison Edgewood playing Waunakee in the Badger Challenge in Waunakee. The Warriors came into the game riding an 11 game winning streak and the Crusaders had one thing on their mind, end the streak. Edgewood looked to do that as quick as possible and posted a goal 12 seconds into the game, when Cody Menzel scored with an assist from Aiden Lenz. The Crusaders were called for an unsportsmanlike 2 minute minor. Waunakee followed with their own 2 minute minor. Pavel Rettig tied the game for Waunakee scoring 2 seconds after the Crusader penalty expired for a shorthanded goal. Madison Edgewood answered 39 seconds later with a power play goal by JJ Wiebusch with Nick McCann and Aiden Lenz assisting at 2:55. Wiebusch picked up his second goal with Lenz collecting his third assist in the game at 5:56 of the first period. The period came to an end with the Crusaders leading 3-1.
While Madison Edgewood won the first period, the second period was a draw. The Crusaders' Luke Thompson scored with an assist from Abe Thompson at 2:48 of the period. Waunakee answered with a goal by Daniel Gumley assisted by David Emerich at 4:20. Waunakee trailed at the end of two periods 4-2.
The third penalty only saw one goal scored and that was by the Crusaders. Cody Menzel scored with 45.8 seconds remaining in the game and was assisted by JJ Wiesbusch. There was a steady march to and from the penalty box. Madison Edgewood won the game 5-2. Rowan White had 19 saves for Edgewood, while Logan Walmer had 35 saves for Waunakee,
The second game of the Badger Challenge in Waunakee was DeForest versus Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells. The game was tied until late in the first period, when RWD's CJ Pfaff scored a power play goal with an assist from Logan DeMars with 1:24 remaining in the period. There was a delay in the game as DeForest's goaltender was accessed a 2 & 10 Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty and DeForest had to change goalies. RWD scored another power play goal at 16:48 of the first period, this time it was Trevor Slaght with an assist from CJ Pfaff. The first period ended with RWD up 2-0.
RWD increased their lead to 3, when Carsen Brandt scored with an assist from CJ Pfaff 19 seconds into the second period. The lead grew to 4 at 4:15 of the second as John Scott scored with an assist from Tomas Korndofer. Gabriel Larson put the Norskies on the board at 5:46 with an assist from Avery O'Dea. RWD had to kill off a 5 minute major as they picked up a penalty for boarding. RWD led 4-1 at the end of two.
The Norskies started the third period with a goal 51 seconds into the period. Gabriel Larson scored with an assist from Bobby Shaw. RWD's Tomas Korndofer answered 12 seconds later with an assist from John Scott. The Cheavers continued to pick up goals, when Trevor Slaght scored with Caden Brandt and Ty Thompson assisting at 2:57 of the third. Korndofer picked up his second goal with an assist from Izak Elder at 4:13. Carsen Brandt scored an unassisted goal for RWD at 6:40. An unassisted goal by Tomas Korndofer wrapped up the scoring for RWD with 8:25 remaining in the game. RWD's Cooper Oakes finished the game with 23 saves. DeForest Norskies' goaltenders combined for a total of 43 saves, 15 for Alex Kaminsky and 28 for Brayden Kurt.
The opening game of the Badger Challenge at The Ice Pond of Waunakee featured the Baraboo/Portage Thunderbirds versus the Milton Red Hawks. The Thunderbirds broke the ice scoring quickly, when Carson Zick skated the puck in deep from the neutral zone and took his shot. The initial shot was blocked by Milton goaltender Alex Jones, but Zick followed his shot and slid the puck in at 2:14 of the period. The Red Hawks answered at the 3:20 mark as Gannon Kligora scored from one knee in the low slot with Carson Zick and Ty Johnson assisting on the goal. The first period concluded with the game tied at 1.
The second period started very similar to the first period. Baraboo/Portage took the lead at 5:28, when Peyton Sloan passed the puck from the offensive goal line to the Luke Schweda at the point. Schweda took the shot from just inside the blueline. As the puck neared the net it was redirected by Nathan Gneiser into the net putting the Thunderbirds up 2-1. The score remained until under a minute left in the period and the Red Hawks were on a 5-on-3 power play. The time on the first penalty expired and Milton remained a one man advantage. Mason Pusateri passed the puck towards the low slot, where Gannon Kligora tipped the puck into the net to tie the game with 39.8 seconds remaining in the second period. The score was tied at 2 at the end of 2 periods.
The Red Hawks took the lead early in the third period. Colter Thom scored the goal with Justin Schnell and Mitchell Masters being credited with the assists. The Thunderbirds kept pressing the issue, but were unable to tie the game as the Red Hawks claimed the win. Alex Jones had 24 saves for the Red Hawks, while Andrew Schaetzl had 28 saves for the Thunderbirds.
