Goalies Rule the Night

The frigid temperatures outside made the Pierce Park rink seem warm, but the goaltenders were doing their best to freeze out the goal scorers on this evening. The Rock County Fury made the trip to the Circus City to take on the Badger Lightning with the intent of sweeping the conference games this year.

Forty-three seconds into the opening period, the Lightning were called for their only penalty of the evening and putting Rock County on the power play. The host Lightning were able to kill the penalty and the game remained tied until late in the first period. Rock County was able to take the lead with 3:30 remaining in the first period, when Olivia Combs scored with Emma Kligora and Marlies Brandli assisting on the play. The first period ended with the Fury clinging to a 1-0 lead.

The second period started out with both teams moving the puck. Rock County picked up a penalty at the 4:35 mark of the period. Forty-seven seconds later, the Fury picked up another penalty giving the Badger Lightning a 5 on 3 power play. Rock County was up to the task and killed off both penalties. The second period ended the way it started with the Fury leading 1-0.

Hannah Chady bumped the Fury lead to two with an unassisted goal at 8:07 of the third period. Olivia Combs and Emma Kligora assisted on Lily Clark's goal at 12:39 of the third to make the score 3-0. The score remained until late in the third. The Badger Lightning were able to avoid the shutout, when Reese Olson scored with Kayla Capenar and Signe Begalske being credited with the assists at 15:45 of the final period. Rock County claimed a 3-1 win.

Olivia Cronin finished the game with 23 saves for Rock County, while Alyssa Gada had 27 saves for the Lightning.
