7th Place Game

Playing in the 7th place game of a tournament is never easy but Black River Falls and Rock County were up and at it on Wednesday at the Chippewa Falls Ice Arena.

Rock County got on the board first with a goal by Marlies Brandli, but the next six goals would belong to Black River Falls.

The Tigers scored three in the first, two in the second, and another in the third before Brandli scored again with 41 seconds left in the game to make it 6-2.

Zowie Hunter had two goals for the Tigers, with Courtney Magnusun, Payton ONeill, Zowie Hunter, Hannah Lane, and Skylar Pierce adding a goal each.

Sydney Magnuson stopped 34 of 36 for the Tigers, and Olivia Cronin stopped 40 of 46 for the Fury.

Consolation Game

The Consolation Championship game was all about defense. Each side did a great job of blocking shots and keeping the front of the net clean. Each squad managed to get just three pucks each to the net. Fortunately for Hayward, one of theirs went in. Riley Sprenger opened the scoring for the Canes with a one timer from the slot off a pass from  Hailey Olby behind the net.

Sprenger would strike again in the second period with a powerful blast on a power play to put the Hurricanes up 2-0. Reese Shehan got a pass in the low slot from Sprenger and wasted no time putting it into the top of the net to extend the lead.

Emmy Bergh got CFM on the board with a low point shot through heavy traffic with just under two minutes left in the second period to cut the lead to 3-1.

Madelyn Hebert pulled the Sabers within one scoring on a rebound off a shot by Joey Schemenauer late in the third period. But Sprenger sealed the Canes victory with an empty netter with 17 seconds left, completing her hattrick.

3rd Place Game

The first period of the third place game had to feel like deja vu for the Eau Claire Area Stars. They gave up three goals to Fox Cites the previous game in the first, and then the flood gates opened in the second.

The Warbirds opened this game with three goals in the first also. Ella Spies started the scoring by putting in her own rebound nine minutes in. A minute later Kendra Dogs slammed in a rebound to make it 2-0 Canes. Another minute and Kristin Binder made it 3-0 with an assist from Allison Waara.

But in this game, the Stars tightened up the defense and started generating some offense in the second period. Addison Knaak got the Stars on the board with a wrister from the low slot, and things were looking a whole lot better for ECA.

It didn’t hold up for the Stars, Josie Kooima put in a rebound from in close just 22 seconds into the third period and the wheels fell off. Spies, Waara and Kooima added goals in the third to claim the Third Place plaque.
