Eleven players tally points as Red Panthers cruise in 11-1 win

Sarah Peplinski notched five points and Molly Kuckkahn and Nicole Hassig each tallied hat tricks as the Point-Rapids Red Panthers earned their first win of the year with an 11-1 victory over Lakeland at the Lakeland Ice Arena Monday night.

Peplinski started the scoring when she jammed home a rebound of a Taylor Grimm shot at 3:39 of the first. Kuckkahn also earned an assist on the play.

Hassig and Kuckkahn scored twice in a span of 1:27 in the middle of the period to make it 3-0 and end the evening for Lakeland goalie Tori Parus, who was shell-shocked from facing 23 shots in just ten minutes of action. Megan Hudy came into the game in relief of Parus.

Hassig scored again at 11:35 to end the first period scoring. The Red Panthers held a huge shot edge in the period, 29-7.

The second period saw the Red Panthers score twice in a span of 1:14 early in the period on goals by Rachel McNamara and Hassig, who completed her hat trick in just over 19 minutes of play, which coincidentally is her jersey number.

Kuckkahn scored midway through the period to stretch the lead to 7-0.

Late in the period, McNamara and Kiana Coombs scored a minute apart to make it 9-0 in favor of the guests. The score was Coombs' first varsity goal.

The Thunderbirds got on the board just 15 seconds later when Jacie Duranso took advantage of a fall from a Red Panthers defender and snuck the puck between goalie Emily Bubla's appendix and her blocker at the 14:27 mark.

The visitors held a 24-3 shot margin in the period.

The third period saw goals early and late for the Red Panthers to end the scoring.

Peplinski scored her second at 3:26 of the period and Kuckkahn earned her hat trick with a wrap-around goal to wrap it up at 13:21.

Point-Rapids outshot Lakeland 14-2 in the period.

Bubla stopped 11 of 12 in the win, while Parus (20) and Hudy (36) combined for 56 saves for the T-Birds.
