Emma Kligora of the Rock County Fury will never forget her first varsity goal.

" The D didnt handle the puck cleanly so i went through and took the puck," said the sophomore winger smiling wide. " I took it hard to the net and juke the goalie and scored."

That goal lifted the Rock County Fury to a 2-1 overtime win over the Brookfield Glacier in the season opener for both teams in Janesville.

Neither team could break the scoring open in the first two periods. Both teams had plenty of power plays but the Fury goalie Olivia Cronin and Glacier goalie Zoe Cole.

Finally the Fury scored first on a goal by Amery Stuckey. She got a pass in the high slot and went top shelf for the goal with Sarah Loerke and Emma Kligora assisting.

Brookfield got it tied shortly after on a 5 hole goal by Cori Rudella, with Julia Della Penna and Molly Cole assisting.

Brookfield was able to get a power play with under two minutes to go but with over a minute of it carrying into overtime were not able to score until Kligora got the even strength winner.

" With all the penalties we have some room to work," said Fury goalie Cronin. "But this is a really good starting point for us."

Brookfield goalie Zoe Cole had 19 stops in the game, while Cronin for the Fury made 29.

The two teams are off now until next Friday when both teams are in a tournament at Mullet Ice in Hartland. They will be meeting once again in their first game

Everyone has their firsts in Hockey.

Rock County Fury skater Emma Kligora will always remember her first goal.

The Sophomore winger was able to win away a loose puck and go in alone and score to make Rock County a 2-1 overtime winner against Brookfield in their season opener in Janesville.

" Their D got the puck and fumbled it.  I drove thru it and took it hard to the net", saif Kligora.

"i was able to juke the goalie and scored".

There wasnt any scoring in the first two periods. Both teams were making regular trips to the penalty box but neither teams goalie would budge an inch.

Finally in the third period the Fury broke thru.

Amery Stuckey got a pass in the high slot and got off a quick shot into the net for a Rock County lead with 6:03 left in the third period. Sarah Loerke and Emma Kligora assisted on the goal.

Any momentum Rock County had was taken away shortly afterwards. Brookfield got the puck in the Fury zone and got a shot off and was able to get a 5 hole goal for a 1-1 tie late. Claire Rottman scored the goal with assists going to Julia Della Penna and Molly Cole.

Brookfield was able to get a power play late in the third period that carried into overtime. Fury goalie Olivia Cronin was solid on the penalty kill. Both teams were at full strength when Kligora scored the unassisted winner.

"We struggled throughout the game with penalties and we have some room to work, but this is a good starting point for us", Said Olivia Cronin the senior goalie for the Fury.

Cronin stopped 29 of 30 in the game. Brookfield goalie Zoe Cole made 19 saves.

Both teams are off until Friday when they meet each other again in a holiday tournament at Arrowhead.
