Springs opens with win over Monona Grove

The Ledgers won on the road in their opener, and did it with plenty of offense.

"We did get some good shooting tonight, no doubt about it," said Springs coach Ty Steffes. "It's a nice start to the season when you can outshoot a team almost 2-1, it makes you feel pretty good."

Springs forced the Monona Grove goalie to make 45 saves.

The Ledgers scored once in the first period and trailed 2-1, but the Ledgers scored three times in the second and third periods.

Tyler Grebe got the first goal just 3:09 into the first period.

Grebe made it 2-2 with a goal just 19 ticks into the second period. Tyler Berndt and Logan Mertens had second-period goals.

Matt Austin scored first in the third period, then Anthony Grebe and Conner Blanck finished it off.

"We found a lot of things we still need to practice and work on. When you walk away with a win you're pretty happy," Steffes said.

One aspect of the Ledgers' play made the coach particularly happy. Senior Trevor Ebertz, who had been a forward, moved to goalie and stopped 25 shots in his first outing.

"That worked out very nicely," Steffes said. "You can't say enough about Trevor, he stepped in a did a heck of a job."
