Milwaukee-Area Players to Watch

Matt Fosdick, sr., Brookfield: The defenseman made first-team all-state as a junior after finishing with 25 goals and 20 assists. Fosdick received all-state honorable mention as a sophomore after tallying 15 goals and 15 assists. He is out for a few weeks, however, with a broken leg.

Mike Roznik, jr., Milwaukee Marquette: The goaltender received honorable mention all-state as a sophomore after his 18 wins in the regular season ranked fourth in the state. His goals-against average was fifth-best (1.78).

Peter Schmitz, sr., Homestead: He was fourth in the state with 39 goals last year and was seventh with 63 points, earning a spot on the all-area second team as a forward. This year, Schmitz has multiple points in each of the first four games. "Peter is an incredibly gifted hockey player, but his work ethic and dedication are what set him apart and make him one of the best players in the state," Homestead coach Chris Donovan said.

Joe Llaurado, sr., Marquette: He also made second-team all-area last season. Hilltoppers' coach Troy Sippl says Llaurado is a prototypical power forward who has an above-average skill set. He shoots the puck well, too, and was another Team Wisconsin member.

Aaron Miller, sr., Marquette: Returns for his final season after making all-area second team as a defenseman. He also played for Team Wisconsin and has similar traits to Llaurado. Both on are their third year on varsity. "He's one of the better defenseman in the state," Sippl said.

Zed Dietrich, soph., Waukesha: He was named Classic 8 Conference player of the year as a freshman, finishing with 51 points in 23 games. This season, Dietrich has eight goals in two games. He's strong on the puck and has tremendous speed and balance. "I have very high expectations for him this year, and with his work ethic, I'm sure he won't disappoint," Waukesha coach Raja Aylsworth said.

Sean Leahy, soph., Whitefish Bay: The goalie was 11-3 last year with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. He made second-team all-North Shore as a freshman. "Sean is a gamer," Bay coach Maco Balkovec said. "The bigger the game, the better he plays. He will take us as far as he is willing to carry us this season, and he loves that challenge."

Brandt Rogers, sr., Brookfield: The defenseman tallied 34 points last year, including 10 goals, to land on the all-Classic 8 Conference second team. "Brandt is a true leader," Brookfield coach Chris Frantz said. Rogers has two goals and three assists in four games.

Olaf Jurenko, sr., Cedarburg: He made second-team all-North Shore as a forward. Jurenko was second on the team in scoring with 19 goals and 13 assists. "Olaf was able to produce 32 points last season while playing on a bad knee (torn ACL) all year," Cedarburg coach Dale West said. "It will be fun to watch him play at 100% again. He's a very explosive player that is capable of taking over a game."

Thomas Fazio, jr., Homestead: Last season, Fazio totaled 53 points, including 26 goals, in the regular season to make second-team all-North Shore as a forward. He played for Team Wisconsin in the off-season. "Thomas is a great player and an even better person," Donovan said. "He loves and respects the game. As a junior, Thomas has been voted assistant captain by his teammates because of their respect for him and his positive demeanor and outstanding play."

Ashton Wackym, sr., University School: This is Wackym's third year on varsity and he's played forward and defenseman. He has a good shot and is a good skater, according to University School co-coach Cal Roadhouse. Wackym, who finished with eight goals and 11 assists last season, has been on Team Wisconsin the last three years.

Corey Roadhouse, sr., University School: He scored nine goals and provided 11 assists last year. This is also his third year on varsity, and the forward is fast, goes hard to the net and continues to score clutch goals. Roadhouse, Wackym and senior Nathan Burke were on the 2010 state championship team.
