WHCA Player of the Year Finalists

The finalists are Isaac Frenette, Joe Kelly, Ethan Mann, Brenden Poshak, Drew Sutton, and Brady Welsch

Isaac Frenette, Chippewa Falls

Isaac is the 2nd all time leading scorer in Chippewa Falls program history. 17 points in 10 playoff games for the captain of the Cardinals.

Isaac was active in the local community. Isaac skated with the local youth hockey program, sang Christmas carols for a retirement home and the Salvation Army at Family Fare.

Coach Scott Parker: “Isaac is a hard hitting left wing that can play solid defense. Isaac is currently plus 103 for his career, which is a Chi-Hi record. Safe to say one of the best players I have ever coached.”

Isaac was a 2nd team Big Rivers All Conference selection and honorable mention All State player in 2019-2020.

Joe is a high performing student-athlete. Joe has a cumulative GPA of 3.8 and ranks in the top 18% of his graduating class. With 68 career games played, Joe has 57 goals and 72 assists for 129 points.

Joe is active in the Eau Claire community coaching the mini mite program along with helping community service projects with the homeless shelter and community table.

Joe is a Big Rivers 1st Team All Conference player and a 2020 honorable mention All State player.

Ethan Mann, University School of Milwaukee

Ethan is a four-year varsity player and senior captain for USM. Ethan played a big role for the 2019 State Championship USM team. As the first line center Ethan led the team in scoring.

Ethan challenges himself academically maintaining difficult class load and a 3.5 GPA. Ethan has helped the Winter Club learn to skate program and volunteers time with WASA (Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association).

Ethan has played 81 career games at USM. 43 goals and 87 assists for 130 career points. 

Ethan will play junior hockey in the BCHL next year for Penticton before starting his collegiate career at Wisconsin.

Brendan Poshak, Notre Dame Academy

Brendan is a four-year varsity player at Notre Dame Academy. Brendan has been a key contributor for the Tritons and a member of three state tournament qualifying teams.

Brendan is a gifted student-athlete and is a high honor roll student at NDA. Brendan has also given his time back in the community helping the learn to skate program and served at local community shelters.

Brendan is a Northern Michigan University commitment and will pursue junior hockey following graduation. Provided things go smoothly with Canadian border opening, Brendan will play for the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Drew is a four-year varsity letter winner and captain for the NHM team the past two season. Drew is an accomplished player on the ice accumulating 167 points (91 goals, 76 assists) and helping NHM to a state runner up finish in 2019.

Drew is an exception student-athlete and carries a 3.98 GPA, which ranks him 20th in his class of 313. Drew is a National Honors Society member and AP scholar. Drew gives back to the community by volunteering for the local initiation program.

Drew was a 1st Team All Conference player in the Badgerland this year and named Conference Player of the Year. Drew will pursue junior hockey post graduation with the intent to play college hockey

Brady Welsch, Saint Mary's Springs

Brady is a four-year varsity player for the Ledgers of St. Mary’s Springs. Brady consistently contributes to the scoresheet. Brady has amassed an impressive 229 points in 108 games played. Brady has 25 game winning goals during his career at St. Mary’s Springs. Brady has been the team captain his junior and senior year.

Brady is high performing student-athlete with a 4.205 GPA, which ranks him in the top three graduates at St. Mary’s Springs this spring.

Brady helped lead his team to the 2020 WIAA D2 State Championship and will look for a repeat in 2021. Brady is a 2020 1st Team All State Player. 

Brady has signed a tender to play for Fairbanks of the NAHL for 2021-2022 with the goal of eventually playing division 1 hockey.
