A 3, 4 and 5 all advanced to the sectional finals in division 2.

Section 1

Hayward vs Rice Lake:  It was a rematch of last year's sectional final, and while Hayward may have scored first, it was all Rice Lake after that with two in the second and one in the third as the Warriors downed the hurricanes to advance to their second consecutive section 1 final.

New Richmond vs Superior: The teams traded goals for two periods, New Richmond, Superior, New Richmond, Superior to make it 2-2 after two, but the Spartans scored just 11 seconds into the third, and again 73 seconds later to make it 4-2. New Richmond wasn't able to dig out of the hole and it ended 4-3 sending Superior to their first division 2 sectional final.

Sectional Final: The teams haven't met this season, but have several opponents in common. Rice Lake split with Eau Claire North 1-4 and 4-3, Superior lost their season opener to North 7-1. Rice Lake beat Amery 3-1, Superior beat them 3-0. Rice Lake beat Hayward 3-2 and 3-1, Superior lost 3-1. Rice Lake tied Chippewa falls 3-3 and lost 9-3. Superior lost 4-3 to Chippewa.

Expect to see a game similar to the Superior vs New Richmond game.

Section 2

Rhinelander vs Northland Pines: After beating Northland Pines twice this season by the score of 5-2, the Hodags had to feel good going into the sectional final.

Rhineland got a 2-0 lead, but Pines evened it up before Rhinelander scored in the waning seconds of the second period to make it 3-2. The teams traded the next two goals, before Rhinelander potted the last two to take a 6-3 win.  The Hodags advance to their first division 2 sectional final.

Lakeland vs Mosinee: Mosinee won the two previous meetings of these teams 4-2 and 3-2 (OT), but the third win wasn't to be, as Lakeland took a 3-1 win to advance to their first division 2 sectional final. The game hasn't been scored yet, so we don't have all the scoring details.

With Lakeland and Rhinelander both advancing, we're guaranteed a new section 2 champion this year, the only one of the four sections that can make that claim heading into the finals.

Sectional Final: The two teams met back on Jan. 7 in a game where each team racked up 8 penalties. Lakeland won 5-2, and shots were even a 34 a piece. 5-on-5 it was 3-1 in Lakeland's favor.

Penalties have been an issue for both teams at times this season. Look for the team that does a better job staying out of the box to take advantage.

Section 3

Regis/Altoona/McDonell vs Baldwin-Woodville: These two traded goals for the first period: BW, RAM, BW, RAM, BW. Then again in the second: BW, RAM. And it was 4-3 BW after two periods.

RAM rattled off three goals in 53 seconds (2:43, 3:01, 3:36) in the third period to take a shocking 6-4 lead! Evan Gustafson scored twice in the binge.

BW got one back at 7:54, and then scored with 39 seconds left on the clock to tie the game and send it to overtime. Unfortunately for the top seed, Evan Gustafson popped his third of the game for the hat trick winner in overtime.

Menomonie vs Somerset: In last year's sectional final Somerset beat Menomonie 3-2 while being outshot 32-23. This year in the semi-final, Menomonie put 33 shots on Somerset goalie Kaleb Bents, and again Bents had a great game.

But this time Somerset piled 46 shots on the Mustangs, sandwiching Memononie's lone goal between three goals to start and finish the 6-1 Somerset win.

Sectional Final: RAM and Somerset have met twice this season and while shots were even in both games, Somerset prevailed 6-0 and 7-4 thanks in no small part to All Conference goalie Kaleb Bents.

Somerset had 3 power play goals in the 7-4 win, so it would behoove RAM to stay out of the penalty box.

Section 4

Cedarburg vs Saint Mary's Springs: This year's Springs squad is probably better than last year's state championship Springs squad. They scored 7 goals in the first period, and allowed just 7 shots on goal in the game. Springs had 9 players with 10 or more points this season, 7 of them are graduating.

Homestead vs Oregon: Andrew Jicha netted a hat trick in this one, which was a lot closer than the scoreboard would lead you to believe. Both teams had their fair share of offensive zone changes, and Homestead played really well in the second period, out shooting Oregon 11-5, but it was Oregon that was able to light the lamp through the game and they'll meet Springs in the final.

Sectional Final: Other than one game against All-State caliber goalie Maclane Schick of Sheboygan, Oregon has scored at least 3 goals in every game they've played this season.

Springs and Oregon haven't met, but they have several common opponents. Springs beat KMMO 4-1, Oregon beat them 4-3. Springs beat Waukesha 5-2, Oregon beat them 4-3. Springs be Sheboygan 6-4, Oregon beat them 2-1. Springs beat Fond du Lac 4-0, Oregon beat them 4-3. Both teams beat Brookfield 5-3.
