The semi-finals saw the first upset of the girls bracket.

Section 1

Chippewa Falls/Menomonie vs Western Wisconsin: Caroline O'Dell stopped 32 of 34 for the Sabers and they got scoring from three different players to top the top seeded Western Wisconsin Stars 3-2.

The previous meeting between these two teams ended in overtime, so a close game was to be expected.

Hudson vs St Croix Valley: Hudson and St Croix Valley played three times in the regular season with Hudson winning the first two, and St Croix Valley winning the third. They've now evened the season series while pitching a shut out to move into the sectional final.

Sectional Final: The Fusion and Sabers have met twice this season with the teams splitting the season series.

The Fusion won the first meeting 5-3 after being tied 2-2 after two periods. The Sabers won 6-2 in the rematch just three days later. Oddly, the team that took more shots lost both games.

Section 2

Bay Area vs Fox Cities: Sure McKayla Zilisch and Grace Rentmeester are the stars of the team, but it was Shelby Hewitt's goal in the third period to put Fox Cites up 3-0 that really iced this game for the defending champions. It was just Hewitt's fourth goal of the season.

The Ice Bears weathered four Stars power plays in the second period without cracking to keep the game close, but couldn't close the gap.

Northland Pines vs Central Wisconsin: As has often been the case over the last few years, Pines kept it close, and the game was tied 1-1 after two periods, but the Storm wore them down and ended up taking the game.

The Storm scored three times in the first 6:23 of the third period, including both power play and short handed goals, to seal the win.

Sectional Final: In one previous meeting this season the Storm out shot the Stars 28-26, but lost on the scoreboard 5-1 on the back of four goals by McKayla Zilisch.

Section 3

Black River Falls vs Eau Claire Area: Sydney Magnuson stopped a stunning 49 shots for Black River Falls to keep this game close the whole way through. Kami Krumenauer's two goals for the Stars were enough to send them through to the sectional final.

Onalaska vs Wisconsin Valley Union: By the midway mark of the second period the Union had jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Onalaska battled back to narrow it to 3-2. Shelby Tryba scored her second of the game at 7:59 of the third to make it 4-2 in favor of the Union. The Hilltoppers would get one more, but it wasn't enough.

Sectional Final: The Stars and Union have not met this season. A look at their common opponents favors the Stars who have beaten (or split with in multiple games) Central Wisconsin, Chippewa Falls/Menomonie, and Western Wisconsin, all of whom beat the Union this year.

Section 4

Warbirds vs University School: University School lead the whole way, and limited the Warbirds to just nine shots on goal. Despite that there were still some hold-you-breath moments in the third period as the Warbirds narrowed the lead to 3-2. In they end they weren't able to generate enough offense to overcome the Wildcats.

Lakeshore vs Arrowhead: The teams had previously met three times this season. Arrowhead won the first 2-1, and the second 3-1, but the Lightning flipped the script for the third and won 9-2!

Unfortunately for the Lightning this one played out more like the first two, with Arrowhead taking a 3-0 win and allowing just 9 shots on goal. Kami McCardle had a strong game in net for the Lightning, turning away 33 of 36.

Sectional Final: Arrowhead and USM have played three times this season, with USM winning all three meetings: 4-1, 3-0, and 5-2. Shots have been pretty even, but Arrowhead is going to have to do better than their scoring average of 1-goal per game if they want to overcome the Wildcats as the Wildcats have only been shut out once this season.
