Senior forward returns to score 2 goals in teams first win

The Janesville Bluebirds were happy to see an old face back in the lineup Monday night in Waupun.

Senior winger Lucas Vogt who was out a couple weeks made his return to the lineup felt with 2 goals lifting Janesville to a 5-2 win over Waupun Monday night.

It was the Bluebirds first win of the season after 9 losses against a very tough schedule.

But this one wasnt easy either. Waupun goalie Tyler Fromolz played a spectacular game and made 50 saves in the game.

The first period had Janesville jumping to a 1-0 lead with 4:26 left in the period. On the power play Jake Schaffner found senior Cayden Erickson open on the back post and delivered a pass for an easy tip in for the lead.

However in the second period Waupun scored in the first minute of play with a goal by Brady Gerritson to even the score at 1. Janesville was able to retake the lead with just over 10 minutes left. Lucas Vogt had fallen down to his knees and a loose puck fell in front of him at the bottom right circle. Vogt was able to get a whack at the puck and it ended up in the net for a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors were able late in the period to knot it up again though. On a 3 on 1 Casper Dahlke was able to get a shot off past Janesville goalie Cody Kaas  for the tie with 1:46 left second period.

Janesville opened up the third period this time by scoring in the first minute. Tyler Steuck was able to force a loose puck and scored for the 3-2 lead on a unassisted goal.

Waupun was defending their zone a lot in the period but had a few chances but Kaas was able to keep his team in front and when the Warriors were able to go empty net it was Lucas Vogt getting his second goal of the night. Jake Schaffner was able to add the last goal in the final minute for the final 5-2 score.

Shots were 54-27 Janesville with 23 shots alone in the third period. Janesville now plays the first of three straight games Thursday hosting KMMO first.

Waupun sees their record now at 2-7 and host Cedarburg Tuesday night.
