There's a new king atop the scoring mountain at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua after forward Max Toijala surpassed former T-Birds great Bruno Borowczyk last week as the all-time scoring leader. While he was at it, Toijala broke down a couple more records, surpassing the career record in goals scored and career assists.

Toijala has played in 77 career games wearing the T-Birds sweater, and with 168 career points passed Borowczyk who held the record previously with 159 points. It doesn't look as if Toijala is slowing down any time soon, and with each point continues to set a new top mark. He currently is averaging just over 4 points per game this season through six games meaning the 200 point mark is a very real possibility at his current pace.

Toijala's 87 career goals in just over three seasons also surpassed the former top number set by Borowczyk (83). Toijala's 81 career assists are also a new top mark for the T-Birds, one over the previous record of 76, also held by Borowczyk.

Only former Lakeland graduate and University of Nebraska-Omaha forward Brent Gwidt (64) has scored more points in a season. Last year Toijala accounted for 59 points which puts him at No. 2 on the program list, just ahead of Borowczyk who scored both 57 and 53 points in consecutive seasons. Toijala's 35 goals last season are second best in program history in terms of a season total. Only Gwidt (41) ranks ahead of him. Toijala's 24 assists last year rank him third all-time in program history for a season behind only Borowczyk (26) and Ted Klabacha (32).

Toijala leads the T-Birds in scoring so far this season, and has helped them to the No. 2 ranking Statewide in Division 2. Lakeland is currently 6-1 on the season with their only blemish coming on the road in Mosinee where they fell, 4-2. The team is scheduled to face Wausau East/Merrill to open 2021, Jan. 5 at the Lakeland Hawks Ice Arena.
