In the closest game of the day the Fox Cities Stars jumped out to an early lead and hung on to down the Hudson Raiders 4-2 in the second girls game of the day.
The Stars scored a pair of power play goals late in the first period. Alaina Schauf scored the first one off a pass from Annika Horman. Madelynn Jablonski scored the second goal on a rebound off a shot by Hanna Hiltunen.
At 15:48 in the first period, Leah Parker weaved her way through the Stars defense and then got hauled down from behind. She was awarded a penalty shot and cashed it in with a nifty move to her backhand, sliding the puck between Ella Sciborski’s leg pads.
Fox Cities got that one back less then a minute later when they got the puck and several bodies to the front of the Hudson net. After a brief scramble, Teagan Dickman poked the puck past Hudson goalie Alayna Kunshier.
With 3:04 to go in the second while killing a penalty, Nikki Olund found Parker behind the Stars defense and fed her the puck. Parker went in on Sciborski and beat her again, to draw the Raiders within one goal at 3-2.
The Stars capped things off with a shorthanded empty net goal with just 18 seconds left in the game.
