Cronin's net play sends Fury to sectional final

Baby Cronin was the chant from the crowd

All 31 times.

The goalie did it.

The Rock County Fury got a first period goal from Anika Einbeck, and Fury goalie Olivia Cronin made all 31 saves, including some breakaway chances in the third period to send the Fury to the Sectional Final with a 1-0 win over USM Tuesday night in Janesville.

Cronin is called Baby Cronin because of being a younger sister to former Fury player Bailey Cronin.

But she was the difference in this one.

It was a tight game all the way thru the first period as the Fury got out of the gate slow, and USM got a lot of offensive zone time. Finally the Fury got a puck in the zone and Anika Einbeck got thru 2 defenders and got off a shot that hit the crossbar and down for the 1-0 lead in the first period.

USM was able to take away the Fury's speed, but the defense for the Fury was able to bend not break in the second period and the game remained 1-0 into the third period.

USM was able to get a few chances in the third period with odd man rushes, but anytime they got a prime scoring chance Cronin stopped them.

With just under 2 minutes left the Wildcats called their timeout to plan their strategy. The Wildcats were not able to get the extra attacker on the ice as the Fury was able to get pucks deep and run out the clock.

Shots in the game were 31-28 USM.

The Fury now moves on to a Friday Night Sectional Final against the Warbirds. The two teams played in Janesville earlier in the season, with Rock County getting a 3-1 win.

USM ended their season with a 8-14-4 record for the season.
