Oregon goalie makes 47 saves in win over rival McFarland

In the Regional Final Section 4 game between McFarland and Oregon, Panther goalie Colton Dailey was very busy.

To the tune of 47 saves busy.

Dailey turned back the ranked Spartans time and time again, and got offensive support in the 6-3 win over McFarland. Oregon now moves on to sectional play next week.

McFarland did get on the board first in this game. Forward Grant Newcomer scored on a screen shot past Dailey on a power play in the first period for the 1-0 Spartan early lead. 

Oregon was able to get a late push in the period and did tie the game. With a delayed penalty call, Oregon got an extra attacker on the ice and scored on a deflected puck to tie the game at 1 with 1:02 left in the first period. Oregon defenseman Spencer Buskager got credit for the goal.

Saves in the first period were 17 for Dailey, while Spartan goalie August Hoel had 5 saves.

Oregon got their first lead of the game in the second period scoring on the power play. Joe Roemer was able to get a loose puck past Spartans goalie Hoel for the 2-1 lead. Dailey came up with a huge save on a 2 on 1 to keep Oregon in the lead but on a power play the Spartans scored on a shot that just snuck in the near post for a 2-2 game.

With time getting late in the second the Panthers got that goal back on a nice shot from Colton Eyers. He was able to get a shot from the left circle off that hit the far post and in for a 3-2 lead thru 2 periods.

Saves were 15 For Dailey and Hoel had 7.

The third period had the game get tied with 7:50 left in regulation. Jack Bartzen intercepted a breakout past mid slot and buried it for a 3-3 tie.

With the game still tied and McFarland buzzing the net, Oregon finally was able to break out the puck. Joe Roemer came up ice and got a shot off from the right circle and scored far side for the 4-3 lead for Oregon with 5:39 left.

The Panthers were awarded a goal on a technicality when a stick was thrown at the puck on a breakaway. With the goalie off the ice the goal was awarded to Laszlo Orosz. With another empty net goal 12 seconds later the Panthers had the 6-3 final score. Dailey once again in the third period had 15 saves.

McFarland ended their season with an 18-5-2 record. Oregon improves to 13-11-1 and moves on to a sectional semi game with top seeded Fondy Springs next Tuesday.
