Girls Regional Final Summary

4 sections, 12 games, and 12 teams done for the year.

There were just two upsets in the first 12 games of the girls tournament as the girls opened regional play this week.

The #5 seed Hayward Hurricanes knocked off the #4 seed Chippewa Falls/Menomonie 2-1 while out shooting them 35-17. Senior goalie Haley Frank had 33 saves in the loss. Hayward will face the top seeded Eau Claire Area Stars next Tuesday.

#3 Hudson knocked off #6 Western Wisconsin 4-1. Hudson will move on to play the St Croix Valley Fusion next Tuesday. Sophomore forward Erin Huerta put the Stars on the board for their only goal of the game.

A the bottom of the bracket #2 St Croix Valley Fusion beat the #7 Superior Spartans 3-1 and will play Hudson Tuesday. Freshman Madelyn Franta had the lone goal for the Spartans.

The #4 seed Northland Pines Eagle managed to outlast the #5 Wisconsin Valley Union 2-1, and will take on the #1 Central Wisconsin Storm on Tuesday. Sophomore Lauryn Broecker had the Union's loan goal, assisted by familiar name, sophomore, Leah Pavelski.

#3 Bay Area Ice Bears edged past the #4 Northern Edge by a score of 4-1 and will play #2 Fox Cities next Tuedsay. The Edge's lone goal was scored by junior Isabella Boyer.

The #2 Fox Cities Stars wore out the #7 Medford Raiders by the tune of 15-2 on Friday. The Stars will take on the Icebergs next week. The game is not yet scored.

It took six overtime periods but the #4 Black Rivers Falls Tigers beat the #5 Viroqua Blackhawks 2-1 to advance to face #1 Madison Metro Lynx. Senior goalie Abigail Severson had 106 saves in the loss for Viroqua.

In an upset the #6 Stoughton Icebergs beat the #3 Onalaska Hilltoppers 2-1. Freshman Jaden Hammes had the lone goal for the Onalaska Hilltoppers who poured in 40 shots in the game.

And at the bottom of the bracket the #2 Cap City Cougars beat the Badger Lightning 9-0 to move on and face the Icebergs next Tuesday.

The #4 USM Wildcats narrowly escaped the #5 Lakeshore Lighting 3-2 to set up their match up with the top seed Rock County Fury. The game has not yet been scored on the site.

The #3 Arrowhead Warhawks knocked off the #6 Brookfield Glacier 6-1 to move on and face the #2 Fond du Lac Warbirds. Senior forward Hadley Malcolmson had the only goal for Brookfield in the loss.

#2 Warbirds coop downed the #7 Beaver Dam Golden Beavers 6-0 at the bottom of the bracket. The Warbirds held Beaver Dam to just 9 shots on goal.
