Boys Regional Final Summary

2 divisions, 8 sections, 32 more seasons are over.

Two number two seeds were sent packing in the regional finals after a fairly uneventful regional semi-final.

#1 Amery went to work against #8 WSFLG to open the division 2 regional rounds, beating them 15-0.

#4 seed Rice Lake downed #5 seed New Richmond 3-1 on Friday and will take on top seed Amery in sectional play. Sophomore forward Brock Unger of New Richmond was the only visiting player in the section to score a goal in the opening round of play.

#3 Superior shut out #6 Medford 8-0 to set up a matchup with #2 Hayward next Tuesday. Senior goalie AJ Adelman stopped 50 for the Raiders in the loss.

And rounding out the shutouts #2 Hayward beat #7 Chequamegon/Phillips/Butternut 12-0. Sophomore goalie Isaac Szymik had 57 saves in the loss for CPB.

Top seed and no. 2 in the state Northland Pines beat #8 seed Tomahawk 14-0 in the second go-round of the Great Northern Conference Tournament. Pines will play #5 seed Waupaca in the sectional semi-final.

#5 Waupaca upset #4 Marshfield 5-1, while out shooting them 50-29. Senior goalie AJ Trierweiler stopped 45 in the loss, and senior forward Evan Weister scored the Tigers' only goal.

#3 Mosinee Indians knocked off #6 Antigo 8-2 to face #7 Rhinelander in the next round. Senior Isaac Wickersheim and freshman Paden Michalik scored for the losing Robins.

And in a stunning upset that Bergler predicted, #7 Rhinelander knocked off #2 Lakeland 3-1 to advance to face Mosinee. Sophomore Teag Wagner had the only goal of the game for the Thunderbirds.

The top seeded Baldwin-Woodville Blackhawks shut out the Regis/Altoona/McDonell co-op 9-0. Man, the D2 tournament has not been kind to the 8 seeds.

The #5 Menomonie Mustangs beat the #4 West Salem Panthers 7-2. Junior Sam Szymanski and sophomore Zach Long scored for the Panthers in the loss. The Mustangs will take on the Blackhawks in the next round.

The #3 seed Somerset Spartans shut out the #6 seed Black River Falls Tigers 6-0. Tigers' junior goalie Cody Kuehl turned away 40 shots in the loss.

At the bottom of the bracket #2 River Falls knocked of #7 Viroqua 9-1. Junior forward Logan Mishler picked up the goal for Viroqua, one more goal than he had in the regular season. River Falls will face Somerset in the next round.

At the top of the bracket #1 in the section, and #1 in the division 2 overall rankings, Fond du Lac Springs, beat #8 Monona Grove 10-0. Senior goalie Andrew Gilbertson did heavy work stopping 41 shots for the Silver Eagles in the loss.

#5 Oregon upset #4 McFarland for the right to face off against Springs in the next round, by the score of 6-3. McFarland outshot Oregon 50-26, with senior forward Grant Newcomer leading the charge with 2 goals, but it wasn't enough.

#3 Waukanee represented for the Badger Conference, knocking off #6 Cedarburg 9-2. Drew Wachter and Nolan Burnside lit the lamp for Cedarburg in the loss.

And at the bottom of the bracket #2 Waupun handled #7 Stoughton 10-0. They'll take on #3 Waunakee on Tuesday.

#1 Hudson opened up the regional finals in the section of death with a 5-2 win over #8 SPASH. Hudson will take on Onalaska/La Crosse in the sectional semi-final.

#4 Onalaska/La Crosse pulled a 5-4 win over #5 Eau Claire Memorial for the right to play Hudson in the next round. Senior forward Max Savaloja led the way in the loss for the Old Abes with a goal and two assists.

#3 seed Chippewa Falls knocked off #6 Eau Claire North to advance to the sectional semi-final. Freshman forward Brayton Thillman was the only Huskie to light the lamp in the loss.

At the bottom of the bracket #2 Wausau West beat #7 DC Everest 6-1 and will face Chippewa Falls in the sectional semi-final. Senior forward Grant Oertel was the only Evergreen who managed to beat Adam Prokop in the loss.

#1 Notre Dame Acadmey knocked off #8 Sheboygan to the tune of 10-0. They'll face conference rival Bay Port in the sectional semi-final.

#4 Bay Port outlasted #5 DePere 4-3 for the right to face NDA in the semi-final.

#3 Neenah/Hortonville/Mensha just squeaked by #6 Ashwaubenon 3-2 in the regional final. Goals by freshmen Teig Driessen and Cooper Routheau actually had Ashwaubenon in the lead in the third period for Neenah pulled out the win.

And at the bottom of the bracket the #7 Beaver Dam Golden Beavers upset the #2 Fond du Lac Cardinals 6-3. Senior forward Tanner Schultz had two goals for Fondy in a 54-shot effort but it wasn't enough to get by Beaver Dam, who will face Neenah in the semi-final.

Top seeded Verona had no trouble getting by #9 Madison Memorial 7-0. Senior goalie Wes Turner turned away 50 shots in the loss for Memorial.

#4 Sauk Prairie skated by #5 Madison West 5-1 to set up a matchup with #1 Verona in the sectional semi-final. Senior defenseman Devin Huie's second period goal actually gave the Regents a 1-0 lead early in the second period, but then the floodgates opened for the Eagles.

#3 Sun Prairie downed #11 Tomah/Sparta 8-1 to advance. Danny Amberg picked up the lone goal for Tomah/Sparta in the loss. Sun Prairie will take on Madison Edgewood in the semi-final.

#2 Madison Edgewood had a tough time but they managed to get by #7 Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells 2-1. RDW's Thomas Pfaff had the only goal by RWD and Cooper Oakes had 30 saves in the loss.

#1 Arrowhead stayed undefeated with a 5-0 win over #8 Brookfield. The Stars only managed 6 shots on goalie, leaving Emmett Peters busy on the other end, turning away 34 shots in the loss.

The sneaky #4 Marquette Hilltoppers knocked off the #5 Homestead Highlanders 2-0, out shooting them 40-20. Senior goalie Chase Kolega had a great game in the loss, stopping 38 shots. Marquette will take on Arrowhead in the sectional semi-final.

#3 KMMO downed #6 WNS 7-0. WNS goalie Max Green stopped 38 shots in the game, as the puck was in their end most of the night.

And at the bottom of the bracket the #2 USM Wildcats knocked off #7 Waukesha Wings 5-2. A second period goal by Wings forward Morgan McKnight actually tied the game at 2 early in the second period, but it was all USM after. USM will take on KMMO in the semi-final.
