The fifth-ranked Madison Metro Lynx made the drive up to Schofield on Saturday morning to take on the Central Wisconsin Storm amid the Wausau Antique Show & Sale that had the Greenheck Fieldhouse parking lot packed.

The teams played a fairly uneventful first 8 minutes, but at the 8:26 mark Sydney Raaths tallied the first score of the game, on what I'm pretty sure was the Lynx' first shot on goal. Raaths took a feed from Rachel Mirwald, and while she was surrounded by three Storm players she put a shot on the ice just inside the glove-side post of goaltender Sydney Weiland.

Raaths would score again four minutes later in a fantastic case of being in the right place at the right time. Lynx defencemen Lauren Johnson and Grace Bonnell traded passes deep in the neutral zone, and sucked the entire Storm team to one side of the ice. That left Raaths wide open and behind the defense for a breakaway and 2-0 lead.

With Eden Gruber serving two minutes for slashing just 14 seconds into the second period, the Lynx worked a nice power play, and Johnson and Bonnell again found a forward to put the puck in, this time it was Mirwald.

The game settled down again that point before the Storm came thundering back five minutes later.

Just 12 seconds into a Storm power play (Maddy Ahlborn for cross-checking), Challis Prohaska fed defensive partner Maddux Federici and Federici fired it on net. Lauren Ellis cleaned up the rebound to get the Storm on the board. It was the first time all evening the Storm managed to get their sticks on an offensive rebound.

Ellis would add another goal just a minute and 25 seconds later. After an errant pass by a Lynx defender, Hannah Bauman picked up the puck behind the net and hit Ellis out front for an easy tap in to bring the Storm within one.

That would be it for the Storm however, and the remaining goal would be another power play goal for the Lynx, again powered by the defense. Ava Jambor found Bonnell at the point, and she sent it to the net work Clair Wischoff was waiting to knock it in, giving the Lynx the 4-2 lead, and eventual win.

Weiland had 13 saves for the Storm in the loss. It was the Storm's first loss with Weiland in net. They now sit at 8-1-1 with Sydney between the pipes, and 16-3-2 overall.

Addy Armstrong picked up the win for the Lynx with a 16 save effort. The Lynx are now 7-1 with her in net, and 18-3 overall.

The Storm will be back in action on Monday for their third meeting with the Eau Claire Area Stars. The Lynx will be back at it on Monday for their second meeting with the Viroqua Blackhawks.
