Steele is named Ms. Independent

NEW! Ms. All-Independent

Success represents so much more than just goals, collegiate playing time and great statistics. The Ms. All-Independent Award aims to call attention to an individual that represents the total package: a great teammate, community service, academic success and contributes positively to the team in ways that are not always measurable. There are no age, team, statistic or GPA requirements.

The Ms. All-Independent Award is a measurement of a person’s worth of someone who embodies all that is right with sports and a person who will have a positive influence on future generations.

SIERRA STEELE, BLACK RIVER FALLS

If you spend some time with Sierra Steele, I believe you will find her to be cooperative, enthusiastic, optimistic, hardworking and one of the most coachable/teachable players you will ever experience.

Sierra is an excellent student, GPA of 4.0 and former Vice President of her freshman class (currently a sophomore).  At a slight 5’1”, 102 #, she is the the grittiest player we have, and yet plays an extremely clean game. Her smile and perpetual exuberance are contagious and impact me as much as her teammates.

She is that player that makes it fun to be at the rink. So far this season, she has been one of our most reliable defensemen and recently we moved her to a forward position to “energize” one of our forward lines. She willingly fills any and all roles we assign to her. While not producing a great deal of points, she is one of the most impactful and reliable players we have.

In addition to being a good student, Sierra is involved in: DECA (a business related school club), FFA (Future Farmers of America), HOSA (health occupation students of America), and Roots and Shoots Club, a science based club that takes on projects to give back to the community.

Recent activities included funding a shoe drive for veterans and establishing a community butterfly garden, Cranfest volunteer (the Warrens, WI Cranberry Festival is the largest of its kind in the State, she is also a former Cranfest Princess), altar server in her home parish, and competes in Rodeo for Tomah HS in both spring and fall seasons including qualifying for the 2019 national finals in barrel racing as a freshman.

If I were to ask our team who is the one person that likely everyone in the room would say they connect with, it would be Sierra, hands down.  In my opinion, Sierra is the heart and soul of our team and I would not want it any other way.

Ms. All-Independent 2020 Runner Up

Kassidy Oliva, Senior, Central Wisconsin Storm

Kassidy is a four-year regular who has developed into our most complete player.  While she has good offensive numbers, her overall play makes her our most valuable player.  She is an outstanding defensive forward and even better penalty killer.  She is a willing shot blocker and her play within our systems makes her an assistant coach on the ice. She has learned to control the game from the top of boards down.  Despite her height, she is hard to overlook.

She is an outstanding student (4.0 GPA while taking several AP classes) and would love to continue playing at the collegiate level while pursuing a career in a medical related field or International Business.
