The second ranked Central Wisconsin Storm upended the top ranked Eau Claire Area Stars 4-1 Thursday at Greenheck Fieldhouse in Weston.

Both games came out a little tentative in the first period, and two Storm penalties gave the Stars the advantage in the period, but both goalies were stingy with Sydney Weiland turning away all eight Stars shots while Naomi Stow turned away all four Storm shots.

The Stars best opportunity of the period came shortly after the opening face off when they managed a couple of backdoor chances, but they couldn't corral the puck to get the shots off.

In the second period the Storm opened up the ice by sending a flyer out of the defensive zone when they gained control of the puck. This cherry picker consistently drew back one of the Stars defenders and opened up a lot of skating room on Greenheck's Olympic-sized ice sheet.

That lead directly to the Storm's first goal. Audrey Ladewig was the flyer on this particular attempt and took a long pass down ice. She came in and fired a shot on Stow and Lauren Ellis was there to put in the rebound for the only scoring in the second period.

Macy Stepan made it 2-0 Storm just 41 seconds into the third period. From this point on, the Storm looked more fired up that this reporter had seen them this season. Challis Proshaska added the Storms' third goal on a power play to make it 3-0.

The Stars got on the board 52 seconds later when Lauren Carmody found the back of the net on a feed form Kalie Gruhlke.

The Storm added the proverbial dagger with 2:02 left on the clock. Kassidy Oliva outraced the Stars defense and Stow came out of the net to knock the puck to the side. Unfortunately it didn't go far enough and Oliva picked it back up and rang a shot off the near side pipe. The rebound came out to Trinity Foster who rang the puck off the far side post, but it defected off of Stow's back and into the net for a 4-1 final score.

Stow had 18 saves for the Stars in the loss, and Weiland had 17 for the Storm in the win. The Storm now sit at 10-2-3, with their only Wisconsin loss coming to the Cap City Cougars. The Stars are now 11-2-1, with their losses coming to Hudson and the Storm, both this week.
