The Waunakee Warriors and Beaver Dam Golden Beavers met for the second time this season Thursday night in Waunakee. Both teams were still looking at getting closer to a possible Badger North Conference title with a win. After Waunakee snuck out a close win at Beaver Dam a few weeks ago, it was expected that this would be a close game too.
Well that theory didn't quite go as expected.
Waunakee came out and scored 4 goals in the first period and never looked back posting a 9-2 win.
With the win the Warriors inched even closer to a conference crown, while the Golden Beavers who were looking for their first ever title may have lost their chance at it.
Waunakee got the scoring going less than 2 minutes in Junior forward Steven Pasinato was able to get the puck past Beavers goalie Kirk Smith twice early in the period and the Warriors were off to the races. It was then time for Isaac Nett to get his hat trick started as he tallied twice with Pasinato helping on both goals to lead 4-0 after 1 period. Shots were a very lopsided 20-4 in the period.
The second period the Warriors came out strong again and scored mere seconds into the period. Once again Nett was involved in the fifth goal scored by Danny Reis. That goal ended Kirk Davis' night and in came Noah Banes. He was quickly put to the test and the Warriors put 2 more in the net for a 7-0 lead. One was by Nett completing his hat trick.
Beaver Dam did find some hope with power play goals late in the second and early in the third. Both goals were by Riley VanderHoeven when finally they got a few pucks past Warrior goalie Ben Luebke.
With the score 7-2 early third period the Golden Beavers started getting pucks to the net more, but two more Waunakee goals finished off the scoring and a 9-2 Warrior win.
It was a big night for Isaac Nett scoring 3 goals and 4 assists. Steven Pasinato had 2 goals and 4 assists. Goalie Ben Luebke finished with 26 saves, while both Beaver Dam goalies combined for 36 saves.
