Second Period Seals Win for Flyers

The Culver’s Cup consolation game featured the Flyers from Sioux Falls, S.D. and the Onalaska Hilltoppers.

Onalaska’s Kiya Bronston opened the scoring at 11:38 of the first period with Tessa Deal and Lydia Walz assisting on the goal. Chloe Harbaugh tied the game for the Flyers with a power play goal at 13:16 of the period with Berit Hefti and Gwyn Winter being credited with assists. The period concluded with the game tied at one.

The second period was a scoring explosion. Sioux Falls opened the scoring at 7:34, when Berit Hefti scored with an assist from Grace Halvorson. The Flyers increased their lead to two with 2:54 remaining in the period on a goal by Gabriella Schroder with an assist from Gwyn Winter. The Hilltoppers answered at 15:37, as Anna Szymanski scored with an assist from Jaden Hammes. Winter and Harbaugh assisted on Kaija Mork’s goal with 15 seconds remaining in the period to boost the Flyers’ lead back to two. Harbaugh beat the buzzer scoring with 0:01 on the clock with Halvorson and Mork assisting. The Flyers led 5-2 at the end of two periods.

Halvorson and Mork assisted on Harbaugh’s third goal of the day with 1:55 remaining in the game giving Sioux Falls a 6-2 victory.
