Dale's 5 point first period leads the Wings past Janesville

In the first game of the Joe Raymond hockey tournament, the Janesville Bluebirds and Waukesha Wings met at Nagawaukee Ice. It was a 4pm start time.

Waukesha’s Tyler Dale showed up along with his teammates.

And Janesville? Well, they showed up late first period.

By then Waukesha had five goals and cruised to a 7-3 win Friday night in Delafield.

Tyler Dale was the driving force behind the scoring barrage for the Wings. The Sophomore forward got the Wings out in front for good registering 5 points in the opening frame on 2 goals and 3 assists. He scored off a faceoff getting the puck past Janesville  goalie Cody Kaas for the opening goal.

After that, Dale had a hand in the next 3 goals. John Majewski scored on a rebound for the second goal. After a Wings penalty, Caleb Redomski scored shorthanded.

After a couple of ill advised penalties by Janesville leading to a 5 on 3 Josh Little scored on the powerplay, and Tyler Dale scored the next power play goal for a 5-0 lead.

Janesville showed a little life with under a minute left in the first period when Senior Captain  Conor Joyce got off a shot that beat Wings goalie Alex Miller making it 5-1 after one period.

The second period had a new goalie in net for Janesville, Jaicy Campbell. He was able to make a couple big stops and with the Bluebirds scoring on a give and go goal by Jake Schaffner to make it 5-2 and a couple of power play chances they were still in it.

But after all the work they put in once again it was Dale scoring on a wrister by the left hash marks with just over 4 minutes left in the second period for a 6-2 game after 2 periods. Tyler Dale ended the night with 3 goals and 3 assists having a hand in 6 of the 7 Waukesha goals.

The Wings and Bluebirds traded third period goals. Waukesha scored 34 seconds into the final period by Brady Hunn, while Schaffner scored again for Janesville, capping off a 2 goal and an assist game for the Janesville forward, and a 7-3 final score.

Shots were 27-26 Wings.

Janesville plays their second game of the tournament Saturday against Northland Pines.

Waukesha will play Fond du Lac.
