Cheavers Defeat Norskies for Conference Win

Trevor Slaght and Danny Ely Lead Way in Team Win

DeForest traveled north to Reedsburg on Friday night for a Badger North conference game versus RWD. Both teams came into the game looking for their first conference win of the season.

The Norskies took the early lead at 6:38 of the first period, when Nicholas Garnell scored with an assist from Bobby Shaw. The Cheavers tied the game on an unassisted goal by Trevor Slaght at the 8:54 mark. Twenty-one seconds later Trevor Slaght assisted on Caden Brandt's goal giving RWD a 2-1 lead in the first.

RWD started the second period on the power play, due to DeForest being called for a penalty as time expired in the first. Fifteen seconds into the period the Cheavers' took advantage of the power play. Clayton Pfaff put the puck past the DeForest goaltender, Joseph Brethouwer, with Danny Ely and Caden Jacobson assisting on the play. RWD increased their lead at 11:53 of the second as Trevor Slaght scored his second goal with an assist from Caden Jacobson. The Cheavers completed the second period scoring with 2:31 remaining on the clock. Thomas Pfaff scored the power play goal with an assist from Trevor Slaght and Clayton Pfaff. DeForest trailed 5-1 at the end of two.

DeForest cut into the deficit early in the third, when Bobby Shaw assisted on Alex Rashid's goal at the 4:31 mark. Thomas Pfaff answered for RWD with an assist from Danny Ely 10:09 left in the game. Danny Ely closed out the scoring for the game with an assist from Alex Kruser at 11:36 of the third. RWD won 7-2.

Joseph Brethouwer finished the game with 35 saves for the Norskies. Cooper Oakes had 23 saves for the Cheavers.
