Five players score multiple points in 10-0 blanking

Mia Goetzke scored her first high school goal and added two more to complete the hat trick along with an assist as the Metro Lynx shut out the Badger Lightning 10-0 Tuesday night at MIA.

Rachel Mirwald scored two and added two assists. Their line mate, Hannah Kolpien, also added a goal and four assists. Kolpien, Mirwald and Goetzke were on the ice for 7 out of 10 goals the Lynx scored. Their line was very energetic and was best at moving the puck that night. It created multiple scoring chances they were able to take advantage of. It was great to see hard work be rewarded. All three were relentless in their effort.

Lauren Johnson started the scoring for the Lynx just 1 minute and 6 seconds into the game when she fired a puck from just above the top of the circles that beat Lightning goaltender, Katlyn Elder, over the shoulder.

Mirwald’s first goal as a Lynx came six seconds later off a hard drive down the wall, cutting to the net and snapping off a quick low shot finding the back of the net.

Another Lynx player grabbing her first high school goal was sophomore Maddy Ahlborn. She scored off a great deflection in front from a Grace Bonnell shot.

Starting the scoring in the second was Kolpien just over a minute in. After making an all effort on a backcheck, she picked up a loose puck and raced up the right wing wall. She let go a wrist shot that deflected of the goalies stick and into the net.

Goetzke got her first high school goal shorthanded. Abby Ahlborn won a puck battle along the wall in the Lightning zone and drove down behind the net. She found Goetzke alone in front. Mia caught the pass on her backhand, quickly took it forehand and chipped it over the goalie for her first of three goals.

Mia would also score the first two goals of the third period. Her next goal came as she went hard to the net and picked up a rebound off a shot from Mirwald.

Goetzke capped off her hat trick when Kolpien won an offensive zone draw to her. Goetzke quickly fired the puck catching the Lightning goaltender off guard.

Abby Ahlborn, picked up a power play goal on a deflection and Alina Yazek would beat the Lightning goaltender with just 5 minutes left to play to round out the scoring.

Lynx Freshman goaltender Addison Armstrong made her high school debut stopping all 11 shots for her first high school win and shut out.

Elder was quite busy and stopped 43 shots for the Lightning.
