It was a night for sophomores for the Metro Lynx.

Kaya Byce (3G), Lauren Johnson (3G), Rachel Mirwald (6A), Grace Bonnell (1G, 2A), Mia Goetzke (1G, 1A), Ally Jacobsen (1G) and Sam Olander (1A) led the way for the Lynx in a 14-4 win over Onalaska Saturday at Madison Ice Arena.

Ally Jacobsen started the scoring with her first high school goal 2:34 seconds in. She fired a shot that hit a Hilltopper defender in front and found the back of the net.

Just a minute and a half later, senior Hannah Kolpien snapped home a shot with assists from Mirwald and Goetzke.

Ava Jambor was next for the Lynx. She worked hard to gain position in front of the Hilltopper net and deflect a pass from Hannah Kolpien to advance the Lynx lead.

Sophomore Kaya Byce took a great feed from senior Sydney Raaths and went in all alone. She beat Hilltopper goaltender Izzy Laasa far side for a shorthanded goal.

However, soon the Lynx found themselves in penalty trouble. Onalaska had a 5-on-3 power play and it didn’t take long to convert. Great passing from Jaidyn Groshek and Kiya Bronston got the puck to Chloe Strain on the back door. She was able to fire one past Lynx goalie Camryn McKersie giving the Hilltoppers a boost going at the end of the first period.

The second period saw the Lynx come out hard getting goals from Lauren Johnson and Sydney Raaths. Mia Goetzke added by getting her first high school goal.

Again, the Lynx found themselves with two players in the penalty box and again, the Hilltoppers connected. This time it was Kiya Bronston unassisted with just a couple minutes left in the second period.

In the third period the Lynx were able to stay out of the penalty box and generated more offense. Kaya Byce and Lauren Johnson started the scoring in the third.

Then it was Kiya Bronston scoring again for Onalaska. The Metro Lynx put up two more from Alina Yazek and Grace Bonnell.
