Coach Schubert and Coach Buchholz promise a “New” Waupun high school hockey program.

2011-2012 SEASON OUTLOOK

Last year (2010-2011) the Waupun Warriors knew it was going to be a rebuilding season, but no one could have predicted how much more it would become for the program.

With the new season 2011-2012 around the corner it brings change to the Waupun Warriors coaching staff, Jonathan Schubert and Jason Buchholz will be the Co-Head Coaches for the team.  “This is going to work out great, both Jon & Jason are friends off the ice, and they complement each other very well.  I know they are going to turn this program around from where it’s been the last few years.   From the coaching aspect, the two of them have coached together previously and big things are coming for Waupun high school hockey; it may take some time but it’s changing.” said Keith Milkowski, Waupun’s Athletic Director.

The general conduct of any team starts with the head coach, if the head coach is in control and in charge, players and parents will follow suit.  If the coach is not leading the team and feels as if he is a victim, then everyone associated with the team will feel the same way.  The conduct over the last few years has put the program in a situation where everyone was a victim without discipline and accountability.  Coach Schubert and Coach Buchholz promise a “New” Waupun high school hockey program.

Previously when Coach Schubert & Coach Buchholz were working together Waupun ranked among the best at #13 in the state.  Over the last three years Waupun’s strength of schedule has been dropping in order to preserve season records, rather than competing against the best in the state.  Currently, Waupun is ranked somewhere in the mid 80’s and that’s something the both coaches are going to be pushing hard to change, “It’s not going to happen overnight, but it’s something to strive for, to get back to playing a schedule where you’re only playing the top 25 teams in the state.” Said Co-Coach Schubert & Buchholz.

Returning impact players include David Schlichting, Jack McMahon, Bryce Smit, Jeremy McCarty, and Cole Lemmenes all are seasoned varsity players.  “We’ve got some good talent with the incoming freshmen, will be looking to get them heavily involved throughout the season to gain experience and we’ll build on that.” said Co-Coach Schubert.
