Kenzie Torpy gets Academic All-America award

Former Icebergs player stars with 3.87 GPA and 69 career wins

St. Thomas senior goalie Kenzie Torpy capped a terrific career with one more elite award. It was announced on Wednesday that Torpy has received Division III Academic All-America honors by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A Psychology major with a 3.87 grade-point average, the Oregon, Wis., native is one of 45 players recognized with the elite academic honor in the At-Large category but one of just three ice hockey honorees. The women's category includes the sports of tennis, golf, ice hockey, swim-dive, gymnastics, skiing, water polo, lacrosse, field hockey.

Torpy is the first St. Thomas women's hockey player so honored in the program's 20-year history. It also marks the 104th CoSIDA academic award all-time for any Tommie student-athlete. All 22 varsity sports that St. Thomas sponsors now has at least one former student-athlete that has received CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Torpy led her team to a program-record 25 wins and its first ever No. 1 national team ranking last winter en route to a fourth-place national finish. She injured her knee on the eve of the Final Four and the team lost both matches with her on the sidelines:
