Kison, Jablonski, Horman score for TW

The Team Wisconsin girls battled back twice from deficits and even grabbed a brief lead, but in the end, the Minnesota HP17 Blue team scored twice more—including once in overtime—to come out on top of a 4-3 barnburner at Fogerty Ice Arena in Blaine in the CCM NIT.

MN scored early, just 1:18 in when Allyson Qualley shoved the puck past TW goalie Abby Severson to start the scoring.

Team Wisconsin tied the game in the middle of the 27 minute first 'half' on a nice play by Maddy Jablonski. The hero of the Fox Cities state tournament win resorted to her deking tricks and beat MN goalie Rachel Kennedy between the right post and left goalie skate to make it 1-1, with assists to Ava Kison and Hadley Malcolmson.

As the period was coming to a close, MN got a gift turnover in the TW d-zone and turned it into a last minute goal, courtesy of Kathryn Davis. The shot thru traffic and off a skate or two gave MN a 2-1 lead with 19 seconds left.

Shots were 25-15 in the period, MN.

TW matched the MN energy early in the second, and as a result tied the game just 91 seconds in. TW had a 2-on-1 rush, and as the defender and goalie both leaned for the pass, Kison ripped a bar-down laser past new goalie Brynn Dulac for the equalizer. Jablonski earned a helper on the scoring play.

TW had another odd-man rush moments later, but Dulac kicked out her left pad to make a nice stop.

And since turnabout is fair play, MN had two great chances 30 seconds apart, but were frustrated when a shot from the left circle caromed off the right post, and then were probably even more disheartened when they had a 3-on-0 rush, only to have it thwarted when the TW defenseman got back in the play to break it up.

With just over 12 minutes left, TW grabbed its first and only lead.

In what was becoming a recurring theme, Annika Horman steamed down the right side on yet another 2-on-1 rush and ripped a shot past the glove of the MN goalie to make it 3-2.

But then it was Minnesota's turn to take advantage of a defensive mix-up and scored on their own odd-man rush, as Jada Habisch fired a rocket that hit a gap just over goalie Emma Quimby's glove and just under the bar in the upper right corner to tie the match at three with just under ten minutes left.

Shots were 15-13 in the period in favor of TW.

Paige McNeil ended the game with just over four minutes left in the extra period with her goal from the right side that just snuck past the TW goalie. Shots were three each in the period.

Final shot count was 41-33, with the edge to Minnesota.

Severson (23) and Quimby (14) combined for 37 saves, while the MN goalies stopped 30 pucks in the game.
