TW finishes 4-1 after 4-0 loss to Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh scored twice in the first period and again in the second and that was enough to defeat Team WI 4-0 in semifinal play Sunday evening in America's Showcase.

Jared Gerger set the tone for Pittsburgh, scoring just 67 seconds into the contest for the 1-0 lead, with an assist to Oldrich Virag.

Three minutes later, Dustin Geregach scored on the power play to make it 2-0. Virag and Andrew Jacobs had assists on the play.

The period ended with Pittsburgh holding an 11-6 shot edge.

Corbin Ragno scored just under three minutes into the middle period to make it 3-0. At that point, TW Coach David Lohrei switched netminders, with Jason Cooke coming in for Joey Greilich.

But it would be Pittsburgh that scored, nine minutes later on Gerger's second tally. Virag got his playmaker, while Tanner Daniels also had an assist.

Pittsburgh outshot TW 15-9 in the period.

TW outshot Pitt in the final period, 10-8, but couldn't put the puck in the net.

The final shot tally was 34-25, Pittsburgh. Greilich (13) and Cooke (17) combined for 30 stops, while Pittsburgh's Danny Stauffer had 25 saves in the shutout.
