Erin's Nomination

Erin is a senior at Homestead High School and is the goaltender for the Lakeshore Lightning. She has been the captain of the team since her sophomore year, which is when the team formed, and has helped lead the Lightning throughout the course of three years to an honorable mention ranking. For high school girl’s hockey, she finished the season last year with the highest save percentage in the state (.950), and the third best goals against average with 1.50. She was a finalist for the Jessie Vetter Award, as well as a First Team All-State goalie. This year, she currently holds the highest SV% in the state with a .945 as of the week of Feb. 1, and is 5th for GAA with a 1.76. The Lightning, under her and fellow seniors' leadership, have climbed through the rankings into the first honorable mention according to the coaches' poll, and the #12 spot in the STAK rankings.

Along with playing for the Lightning, Erin also has played for Team Wisconsin for three years. At the National Tournament last year as a U16, she posted the highest SV% and lowest GAA of all U16 goalies at the tournament, with only 1 goal allowed in two games, shutting out the highly competitive Little Caesars in pool play. She enjoys getting to play with girls from around Wisconsin, as it brings the hockey community closer together and makes a seemingly big state feel a little smaller.

Off the ice, Erin is involved in activities and leadership at Homestead High School, as well as in her community. As a web editor for Highlander Publications, the student’s news source at Homestead, Erin works with other student editors and the adviser to lead the program. Through Publications she has become an intern writer with the Booster Club at Homestead. Her other sports include cross country, where she has earned her varsity letter for two years after running for three and competing on varsity for one, and track & field, where she also earned a varsity letter and ran on the varsity team for two years. In her community, Erin has helped out at events at the rink such as Girls Try Hockey, Skate with the Highlanders, and goalie clinics for younger goaltenders. Erin has worked as a volunteer at Vacation Bible School through her church for over four years, leading kids in pre through middle school in lessons, worship and games as a part of VBS Work Crew. Also through her church, she has participated in mission trips for three years, twice going to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and once going to New York City with the Center for Student Missions. Lastly, she was inducted and honored as a member of the National Honor Society, and has maintained status on the high honor roll for all four years, earning the Merit Award sophomore year.
