I don't fear failure. I only fear the slowing up of the engine inside of me which is saying, "Keep going, someone must be on top, why not you?"

As the puck drops on the 2011-2012 season, RMB’s second year head coach, Guy Brown, looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that present themselves. Armed with a core contingent of returning players and adding a solid incoming group, Brown finds himself and his team squarely in the crosshairs of heightened expectations for the season ahead. “Last year, we spent a lot of time in evaluating talent and establishing our systems. Now that we’ve got a year under our belt, the stakes have been raised. For this program to continue its upward trajectory, we have to show growth and the ability to successfully compete. It’s only with that success that we’ll get a shot at some of the heavyweights in the state, a challenge we welcome and embrace.”
RMB returns a young group that boasts seven juniors and five more sophs and for the first time in a long time, there’s depth that will be expected to make significant contributions right away. A freshman class of another 7 players rounds out the co-op’s roster, one that will expand to play an abbreviated JV schedule as well. “The ability to have numbers and put some JV games on the schedule will help the depth and experience of our young team,” said Brown.
Co-op hockey (in this case, 4 schools that would otherwise not have enough to field their own teams individually) has continued to flourish in these tough economic times and RMB is no different. This year, application was made through the WIAA and granted in order to allow players from Mondovi High School to join the existing 3 schools. “It’s exciting that more kids will get a chance to compete at the varsity level. That’s just great for the game,” quipped the head coach.
Brown will be joined behind the bench for a second consecutive year by assistants Kevin Hickey, Todd Dunn and Erik Raygor. The team kicks off their 2011/12 campaign with 8 of their first 9 games on the road, something Brown doesn’t take lightly. “We’ll know where we stand pretty quickly this year and by Christmas, we should have a good handle on exactly where we need to focus our effort. We’re ready to get to work!”
