STEVENS POINT - As an aspiring hockey player in Stevens Point coming through the youth ranks, Tyler Krueger never imagined this day would come.
Heck. He had no idea he even wanted to be a hockey coach when he played at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Now, Krueger will be the head coach of one of the most tradition-rich Division III men's hockey programs in the country. No interim tag. The job is unequivocally his.
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point director of athletics Brad Duckworth announced Thursday that Krueger has been elevated to permanent men’s hockey coach at the school.
"It's definitely a cool story being from the area and going to Pointer games when I was little," Krueger said. "I feel fortunate to be in this position at such a young age.
"I'm thrilled. I'm excited to be here. I love the university. I love the guys."
