Turnover in OT grounds Warbirds title hopes.

The Cap City Cougars needed a little extra time in their semifinal game against the Warbirds.

But Cougar winger sophomore Zephryn Jager made the wait worth it.

Jager stole a puck from a defender early in overtime and beat goalie Abby Okon 5 hole for a 3-2 win.

The win sends the Cougars to their first championship game against another first timer the ECA Stars on Saturday.

The Warbirds got on the board early in the first period as Mary Skarupa scored just over a minute into the game. Both teams battled but it was a 1-0 Warbird lead after 1 period.

The Cougars were able to tie the game on a goal by Colleen Milligan. She got off a shot from the top left circle thru traffic with a wrist shot. The period would end with a tie at 1.

The Cougars early in the third period were able to get a 5 on 3 power play. And they made it count. Once again Colleen Milligan from the slot slung a loose puck that eluded Abby Okon for the 2-1 Cougar lead.

The Warbirds made a few pushes to tie the game but finally with 2:57 left in the third period, Mary Skorupa got her second goal. A shot went off the end board and she was at the right of the net and backhanded the puck in.

The Cougars finally pushed the game to overtime. And the final the game winner was set up off a steal from a defender in the Warbird zone to score the eventual goal.

For the Warbirds they saw their season end with a fine 19-9 record.

The Cap City Cougars won their 21st game and will be looking for 22 in the State title game on Saturday. Both goalies finished the game with 25 saves,
