Wings move on to sectional final

The Janesville Bluebirds coming into the Section 7 semifinal was hoping to something that other teams had not done the last two seasons in sectional play.

Take down the top seed Waukesha Wings.

Janesville got into penalty trouble early on and it spelled the end of their season as Waukesha had four power play goals in a 5-1 win Tuesday night in Delafield.

Early in the game the Bluebirds found themselves killing off a 5 minute major penalty. With all but one minute killed the Wings scored on a Griffin Nickerson poking a rebound home. Kevin Broda extended the Wings lead to 2-0 after one period with a power play goal as well with under a minute left in the period.

Garrett Wilderman scored the only even strength goal of the game with a one timer shot for the 3-0 lead in the second period. Janesville was able to keep in the game with a goal from Ben Coulter. He was able to beat a defender down the boards and scored 5 hole on Garrett Larson for a 3-1 game.

The third period saw Janesville again in the penalty box and the Wings getting 2 more goals, with Jacob Arndt and Trenton Tucker scoring to make it a 5-1 game and sealing the game as a Wings victory.

The win sends Waukesha into its third consecutive sectional final. Classic Eight Conference rival Milwaukee Marquette stands in the way of another trip to Madison. The game will be Friday night at Eble Park.

Janesville ends their season with a 7-17 record. Owen Aldrich made 40 saves for Janesville in net, while  Garrett Larson stopped 16 in the win.
