ONALASKA — The Onalaska and West Salem/Bangor boys hockey teams will play each other to determine which will advance to the WIAA state tournament Saturday after both won sectional semifinals on Tuesday.

The Hilltoppers controlled the second two periods against the Aquinas co-op on the way to a 5-1 victory at the OmniCenter, while the Panthers needed two overtimes to score a 3-2 win over Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells at the Meat Locker.

They will meet at the OmniCenter in a 2 p.m. sectional final as the Panthers try to qualify for their second state tournament in a row and the Hilltoppers for their third in five seasons.

Jacob Dirks and CJ Lass had two goals and two assists each in Onalaska’s win over the Avalanche.

The Avalanche finish their season 19-7 with two of the losses coming to the Hilltoppers, who also received a goal from Tommy Duren and won for the 12th time in the last 14 games.
