Three power play goals enough for Wings victory

The WiPH Game of the Week featured state ranked Waukesha snd Homestead getting together as both teams were looking for a tuneup for the playoffs.

After further review one element of Waukesha's game is.

The Waukesha power play is ready.

The Wings used three man advantage goals to top Homestead 3-1 Friday night in Delafield

The scoring got started in the first period with the first of two goals by Griffin Nickerson. He was in the right place on a rebound off a shot by Trenton Tucker.The puck came out in the slot and he shot it past Homestead goalie Ty Barnhill for the 1-0 lead after 1 period of play.

The second period saw Waukesha double the scoring. With Homestead whistled for a slashing call the Wings got a tally from near the net by Kevin Broda. Still though late in the period another penalty resulted in a score for the Wings. Griffin Nickerson finshed off his three point night with a shot that rang off the crossbar and down for the 3-0 lead after 2 periods.

Homestead came out in the third period and got their goal to put them back in the game. On a failed clearing attempt, the puck found its way to Highlander Drew Gebhardt. Gebhardt was able to shoot one low and quickly past Wings goalie Garrett Larson for a 3-1 deficit less than a minute into the final period.

Waukesha in the period though found themselves battling penalties, including losing Garrett Wilderman for the rest of the game. Garrett Larson was able to stand ready to the challenge,and Waukesha held on for the 3-1 win. Larson was once again solid in net made 24 saves out of 25 shots. Homestead goalie Ty Barnhill was also as good making 26 saves. Wings forward Trenton Tucker was involved with all 3 goals by Waukesha goals.

When not scoring goals for the Wings, Nickerson was adjusting his game to include an assist on the Kevn Broda goal.
